I like the idea of the 450, but I'm not sure how useful it'll be for me, given that I'll be doing mega motorway miles as a commute.
It's a shame, because the Chinese bikes are clearly improving as time goes by.

You'd be surprised. I racked up alot of motorway miles taking my old 250 Jinlun from Tidworth to Cardiff regularly. The asthmatic copy of an old honda twin did fine at legal speeds, returned great MPG and consumables lasted ages.

That Honley 250 has a better lump with more power.

Interesting. I'll be doing Birmingham to London, which will be 'fun'. I may consider such a purchase, although the GS is probably the ideal bike for such a commute.

Reading what you lot are saying, I can tell you as a new owner of a Honley 250, I would not choose it as a motorway bike.
Even though it can overtake lorries and the like, it`s not a good ride at prolonged higher? speeds.
Don`t get me wrong, it copes, but I would not want to do that for any length of time.
In my limited time with the bike, what it is good at is B-roads Smile

I have a tiny tiny tiny oil leak from where the previous owner was not careful when he replaced the clutch cover gasket after a service Sad
I have lost less than half a thimble full in 600 miles.
I just see a slight smear on the case after a ride and the level through the site-glass has not dropped.

As for power? Smile you`re barking up the wrong tree with this one!
It does have enough to trundle along at a reasonable rate.
I`m sixteen and a half stone and it carries me along nicely Thumbs Up
You do have to keep it in the sweet spot, revs wise to make progress and in the higher gears that is above 5k.
This means you do spend a bit of time shuffling the gearbox.
Drop out of the sweet spot and the bike will shake a bit to let you know to drop a gear or give it some throttle .

I said it before and I`ll say it again, that seat is hard Shocked .
I really will need to sort something out before it goes on a longer trip.

I have learn/familiarise myself with sitting upright on a bike again.
For example, today the cross wind nearly caught me out a couple of times were it would not had of been such a problem on a sports styled bike.
Compered to my Hyosung, the Honley is like trying to fly a barn door Smile

Hi All

Well, Zhongshen are releasing a 450 version in 2017, and also entering a bike in the Dakar rally next year.

Question is, will we see Honley, another importer or themselves, under the their own brand, Cyclone? I hope so, as I'd be sorely tempted, along with the Shineray X-5 (aka WK400 trail), or, if CFMoto release the CF650MT over here, to replace my RX-3, as it will have a little more oomph.

However, contrary to the above, I do use my RX-3 on the motorway pretty frequently.

Mini update : I have been looking into the tiny tiny oil leak that I have on this bike.
I identified where it was coming from, ie from the clutch cover casing.

Hmm? me-thinks, as it appears to be coming from between the casing and the engine block, I recon it could be a gasket failure.
Wrong!! the gasket was fine, however I do have a tiny tiny tiny fracture in the casing cover and it is acting like a tiny oilway to the wrong side of the gasket.

I already have a possible solution in the pipeline (ally- welding) and Ernshaws in Huddersfield have said they should be able to do it Praying

On a second second note, When I took the sump bash plate off to get to the sump plug, I discovered that one of the brackets holding the sump bash plate on is snapped Crying or Very sad

Does it look like dodgy materials to blame or poor care by a previous owner?

Hi

I know, you can't generalise, but, it's probably poor care etc by the previous owner, mine was an ex demo bike, that you could tell had been knocked about. Took me a little while to sort out the niggles with it, which was a little frustrating !!

However, I am happy with mine now, and it makes for a pretty reasonable crappy weather bike.

Mr Snod : I did think about chemical metal, however the chemical metal would need to go on the inside face of the cover.
Not a good place for a fix to be, in that hot environment along with hot oil swirling around.

Mr Nitro : No I don`t think I can blame the previous owner on this matter.
It looks like a poor casting got through quality control????
The crack is really tiny, but fluids will always find a way out and hot oil is thin and easy to escape Crying or Very sad

EDIT : new casing came from America, also new gasket. four days from order to delivery, approx £36 including shipping Smile Thumbs Up
On bike today and so far (fingers crossed) the leak appears to be dealt with.

Maybe its me, but my first reaction was
where would I stow my helmet and gloves?
A bigger top box would be high on my shopping list
Reminds me a bit of my old K100s which shipped with weeny top boxes that were binned for more useful ones.
