 |
|
An ojos azules cat used to come round now and again with a collar and a little badge thing with a phone number/cat name on it. It's a super friendly cat.
I see it a lot thinner these days without the collar and it often comes round when I'm cooking and sometimes goes round to my neighbours too.
It looks like the old owners have simply abandoned this cat cutting off the collar and locking it out.
Surely they can't just do this right? I'm thinking the next time this cat comes round I simply put it in a box and take it to the vet where presumably the chip implant will still be the old owners and something will happen for abandoning a cat
I do know those people are not very nice people. The postman and parcel people keep giving me their mail... she comes round and snatches it out of my hand...
Or am I too optimistic on what will happen? And cat will probably get put into a shelter until it is re-adopted?
Much as I'd like to keep this cat I'm often away.
Any thoughts? ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

Congratulations, you now own a cat.
It's obviously decided it wants to live with you, the sooner you give in to this, the happier you'll be.
The relevant law is the animal welfare act 2006 which encompasses a load of secondary legislation.
Of most relevance would be the welfare of cats code of practice.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/69392/pb13332-cop-cats-091204.pdf
Where you get into a sticky wicket is proving a breach and proving it's theirs. Then getting someone to prosecute them for any breaches. They might deny ownership, there are a great many cats in the UK who don't belong to anyone.
In my experience, most cats aren't microchipped. Of those which are brought to me as "found" which actually do have a microchip, I'd say around 50% have expired/incorrect details on the chip database.
Most cats, when their owner stops looking after them properly, move out and move in with someone else.
So again, congratulations on your new cat. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

If it's comfortable enough to curl in a box and not freak when you creep up for a photo, you've got it sorted. Cat likes you, they aren't hard to keep entertained and they are glorious bastards to keep.

When I lived with my parents we adopted a cat we named Ginger (short for That Ginger Thing) in a similar way. From his behaviour we assumed that he'd been bought as a kitten and later abused or abandoned.
He was completely self-sufficient and proved this by bringing back food most days, including one rabbit. He decided that stealing food from the resident cat, Josie, who was approaching 20 at the time, was an easier way of life.
Became quite domesticated after a few weeks, up to the point of breaking into bedrooms and demanding attention at 5am. His fur was always coarse from years of wildness and he still had a the occasional feral moment if you touched his belly.
Took months for him to get used to the door, he'd always watch it suspiciously as he went through, usually at speed.
Tried to do the same a few years later with a massive long haired black and white thing that wouldn't let you anywhere near him, but he disappeared before he tried to move in. ____________________ This post is probably not serious and shouldn't be taken literally.

It could be that the circumstances have changed in the cat's household.
I had 2 cats when I first got Bruno, but we soon learned that he was only interested in cats to chase. The girl cat, Doris, ended up living pretty much under my bed, climbing in and out of the bedroom window to get out, and her food bowls ended up being kept in the bedroom, an extremely unsuitable arrangement for everybody concerned. Eventually I took her back to the lady who gave her to me.
Her brother Brutus was even more timid, and initially took off for days at a time. He tried to come back to the house, but every time he did, Bruno used to chase him down the alley and head butt the fence in an effort to catch him. I could not entice the poor little guy back into the house, even just to come to an arrangement about living under my bed with his sister. I thought he had run away and found a new home, but after several months, he showed up again, desperately skinny and frightened looking. I managed to catch him, and gave him a bit of grub, then took him to the vet, who gave him a couple of shots, but it was not good enough, he died the next morning, he must have been starving and frightened, but couldn't get back to my house to let me know he wanted to come back in.
So it looks like the cat has adopted you. Cats settle with people who treat them the rightest. Enjoy his company, in case he buggers off elsewhere after a while. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Did you name him that because he has a golden hue to him?
If you shout "JAFFA, KREE!" does he stand at attention and grab the nearest Stafflike weapon to hand? ____________________ The above post is most likely nonsensical.
