It's actually an interesting point (from Val )

I saw the first episode of the new series of the gadget show, repeated, on Sunday and they also referred to the system as an "Autopilot".

It's simply not the case, it's just slightly more advanced Cruise control.

There's so many flavours of auto correct for dim drivers and I think it's inevitable that others will die directly because of it, but be largely balanced out by those who were saved in spite of it.

Beware the auto braking radar equipped vehicles that perform an emergency stop because an empty crisp bag wandered in front of the sensors. I'm always aware of the compensation scammers looking for a bit of rear end action, so I don't tend to get that close whether riding or driving, but these back seat e-drivers are new elements of danger.

I really don't think motorbike filtering is going to be something the designers or developers can plan for, good filtering is (almost) by its creative and spontaneous nature an art form, and one that would blow a motorbike sized hole in The Matrix.

Out of curiosity, has anyone drive a car with this 'park assist'? Does it really parallel park for you or is that an advert showing artistic licence?

Not driven but I've been in a Volvo XC90 with the parking assist and other automated type stuff, it really does do what they claim it will, it's pretty damn cool!

Parking is a special case problem with far fewer variables than general driving. Even at that, can it cope with traffic making close overtakes or will it cheerfully swing the nose right into it?

The problem with having a smorgasbord of "assistive" tech on board is that it's going to make a typical driver cede responsibility for all of their actions, and become even lazier and less observant. I'm not even going to phrase that as an opinion, since it's so self evident.

I'd honestly rather have full robocars (and I don't want those) than "assistive" ones.
