Sunday I fucked my knee, went to the Docs and got an X ray nothing broken but I've damaged my 'Medial Collateral' Ligament. Dr said Ibuprofen and if it still hurts in a few days see my GP for an MRI.

It doesn't feel any better yet, tomorrow if it is the same I'm going call my GP.

I've worried I've done something serious and just wondered if anyone has been through this before and how long it took to sort.

It would be a big and potentially life-changing (in a fairly small way compared to others) injury if it was totally broken. But I'd imagine your knee would be folding in sideways if you'd done that. You'd probably have noticed.

So most likely a minor PITA which will take a surprisingly long time to fully heal. Rest now, physio later. Think 6 weeks.

A collateral tear can also tear the meniscus (often called the knee cartilages), which is a bit more of a nuiscance because they are poor at healing, hence the recommendation for an MRI if it's not improving.

Knee injuries can sometimes never get completely better. That's my experience, and two other people I work with who have done knee ligament damage Sad

I don't think it's broken I can walk however anything more than a short distance without a crutch hurts, any kind of step even just out of the house is painful too. I've I'm up for too long I get really bad stabbing pains in it. I'll see how it goes then.

Months or years or permanent noticeable condition.
Strap it to support the joint whilst it heals. Keep it warm to assist circulation and rest it before it gives you jip. (When you find out how much exercise that takes.)
A bicycle helps improve joint mobility but do not push too hard until the any pain reduces. Pain isn't bad but it is a warning that damage could be done.
Ligaments take much much longer to heal than bones maybe due to less blood supply.

Your Quack should maybe have advised that you visit a physiotherapist for some exercise and possibly ultrasound to help reduce scar tissue.

If brufen doesn't work then try coated aspirin. It is a better anti-inflammatory but can cause some blood thinning and digestive problems. I only use aspirin now.

I had a bit of a fall and the landing snapped a ligament in my wrist.

It took 18 months of me pestering for the actual damage to be found (it took me that long to get an MRI and arthroscopy done to investigate). Ligament injuries can be deceptive, but your doc is being reasonable in suggesting you see if it calms for a few days first.

As MCN said, get a strap to support your knee. Don't overdo anything with it.

Mate of mine did his cruciate ligament ages ago in one of his knees (got snapped in footy)

He would be standing still then would collapse, funny to watch but annoying for him I reckon

Took months to recover - even after surgery, something about because ligaments dont have blood flow or something they either take forever to heal or they just dont ever heal...

Take it very easy on it or you could brake the ligament.

I broke the one on the outer side and now have a loose knee
that would lockup if I kneeled down and get up.

Now from not looking after this things I have a shoulder in 24 hour
pain,a loose knee and an ankle on the same leg that has near no movement.

It's great fun walking the dog. Smile

which knee?

I had issues with my left knee until I stopped doing a side-stand spin on the varadero to get it out the gate every morning,

pain came back when I got the ZZR until I started pushing it up with weight on the right hand foot peg instead of just trying to shove it up off the stand.

what I'm trying to say is, look at what may have been aggravating it before the incident that caused the current pain to avoid aggravating it while it tries to heal.

Yes. ACL, PCL, LCL with additional damage. Years to recover if ever.

MCL tears only normally happen to contact sportman. MCL normally has added ACL and/or PCL damage.

I was playing catch, I jumped and twisted to catch a ball and landed on it and collapsed screaming.

It's better in some ways today I can move it without sharp pain however I also can't walk as far without it hurting. Booked in at the GP, next Tuesday...

I landed hard hitting my kneecap on a lawn trim kerb in someone's garden when I was 9.

After that, every so often when bending that knee (e.g. jumping off something) I'd feel sharp pain and I'd straighten my leg like I was electrocuted. The random sharp pains didn't stop happening until I was about 20. But I can still feel a slight stiffness in that knee today (I'm 36).

Have you read the posts.?

If it hurts don't walk.
You are only a week into an injury that could be there for
the rest of your life if you don't look after it now.
And get worse as you get older.

Don't cycle as that bends your knee too far.

Mate of mine is knocking on a bit and is really forgetful to the point where we think he's got something wrong with him. He's booked up a doctor's appointment but couldn't get an appointment for three week. Come the day before he gets a text reminding him of the appointment. Trouble is, he can't remember what he booked it up for. Not to worry he says, I'll remember by the time I get there tomorrow. He goes out on the lash and wakes up in a mad rush as his appointment is early morning. He gets there and gets called in almost immediately. Can he remember what he orginally called for? Can he fuck.
Goes in to the doctor's surgery racking his brain and the doc asks him what is the trouble. He can't remember what the fuck he called up originally for so just blurts out that he wants a prostate exam (first thing that came to his mind - or so he says). Just as the doc is slipping his finger up his fudge tunnel he blurts out "Stop! I"m in here for my dodgy knee!!!". The twat.

The thing is when you get older most injurys hurt way worse
when it's cold and now it is going from hot to cold weather.
On one day it could feel like agony and on a few worm days could be fine.
I am way worse when it's cold.

Tell him to write these things down or at least phone to see
what the apointment is for.

Both my knees are fucked after 30 years of plumbing mostly with no knee pads, I twisted my left knee a couple of nights ago now it clicks when I straighten it hurts like fuck as well especially when driving.
I bought one of of those cheap tens machines from lidl and it does relieve the pain well worth £15.

Dislocated both by knees, hurt like you would not believe. Patella dislocation is extremely painful and several years on I have arthritis in my right knee. Plays up when out on the bike or when driving. Cold weather makes them both ache. I'm going to hate getting old.

I can pop my right patella out of place and flex my knee to pop it back. This is not a good thing i reckon. I have some damage which causes me considerable pain if i twist my leg while climbing up or down steep hills.

I havent been to a doctor about it so no idea what the problem is. Im old so just accept it as part and parcel of that
