Hi

I am going to do a trip through the Pyrenees and Alps next year. When would be the best time.

I am guessing you need to consider weather and traffic?

cheers

Mrs.Fizzer and I are looking to ride anti-clockwise around France next year and to either bounce off the north of the Pyrenees or go into Spain and ride along the southern edge. Then into Perpignon and along the south coast and up the Napolean Mountain Road.

Or something along those roads Very Happy Thumbs Up

Probably going mid-June to mid-July for three weeks Cool Sun Dance!

Some of the highest passes in France aren't reliably open until June though it varies - sometimes will be closed for avalanche repairs after snow is cleared. Then mid-October is pushing your luck too.
You can find this info as you get nearer provided route is flexible.

The Pyrenees roads don't go quite as high, it can be very hot in SW France as you approach especially through August.
Also the French seem to take August off and it gets very busy.
So... Late May/June/July or September might be worth aiming for.

There's some spectacular roads in SE France in particular Tarn Gorge is worth driving through (Millau Viaduct goes over the Southern end).
I'd avoid Nice and St Tropez coastline but just inland Provence is gorgeous.
Further west the Med coast is rather developed for long stretches but a better place to consider a 'beach break'.

You really need at least ten days to do a relaxed circuit of France
