I don't have the V5c any other way to check overship?

Looked through the description and very nearly picked up the phone to buy it.

Last line says lost V5c in a house move Confused

are there any other ways you could check the authenticity and ownership of a bike?

Loads of old MOTs? (would a bike thief steal old mot certs?).

Or barge pole?

As far as I'm aware there's no other way of checking ownership, unless you have access to the PNC and can run the reg plate.

But as you say, unlikely to steal a load of old MOTs. MOT's are definitely for that bike?

You could always HPI it, it won't give you the owner, but will tell you if it's been written off, on finance, that sort of thing

V5 isn't proof of ownership anyway, if he's got all the keys and a stack of paperwork to go with it and the HPI comes back all good then I wouldn't worry too much.

How recent was the supposed house move it got lost in? It only takes a week and a slightly painful £25 to replace it, something which most honest folk would probably do if they were selling? How will they transfer ownership without it, the online system also requires the v5 number...

I could apply for the V5 for any vehicle I can get the VIN number for, doesn't make it mine.

Like I said as long as the HPI comes back clean so there's no finance owing, it's not stolen and he has random paperwork that no ones going to bother nicking it really doesn't matter.

Get him to knock the £25 for a new one off the price if you wish.

Surely all the documents would be kept in the same place?
