Hi All,

can anyone recommend a insurance and industry approved ground anchor, I know there are a few out there, but which is the best in terms of security and for lowering the insurance premium?

Thanks!

Declaring a ground anchor, wut? I've only seen declaring a chain, what website or you just asking a question without research behind it?

Wouldn't declare any security on policy because if you're not using it and bike gets stole and you make a claim it's leeway to wriggle out of paying you because you've gone against terms of policy. Yes mate, even for popping into the shops for a minuate or two.

So your question becomes "what ground anchor do I buy?" and the answer would be one that fits the width of chain that you aim to use and can be secured into the type of surface that you aim to use it on, do some research and look around. As usual I'll throw Pragmasis out there for a recommendation just to be general.

Unlikely to make a significant difference and, as above, tends to put onerous security conditions onto the policy which means you'll be paying ever so slightly less to have far less cover in a high number of potential circumstances.

That's a very long winded way of saying not worth it for insurance saving - do it for security brah, for the love baby, cos you're a carer honey.

The fact that some Oxford products are Sold Secure and Thatcham approved shows that there's no connection between "insurance approved" and "more use than a chocolate fire guard".

This. Bike lives in garage, this is declared. Bike is also locked in several ways, none of which are declared because it'd be just my luck to have forgotten one on the day it got pinched, leaving myself potentially uninsured.

Yes you could play the "I guess they've taken the lock too" game, but it won't be the first time insurers have heard that and you're kind of into insurance-fraud once you've gone down that route. For the sake of a fiver, I'd not bother declaring any security that may occasionally be missing.

See also: "I declared my Tuffstuff Fortknoxilock to the insurers, and it broke, and I couldn't find new one, so I had to buy a Ruffstuff Alcatrazashackle and when I told the insurers they charged me £35 for amending my policy..."

The latter is more of a pain to install, but is sturdier and more discreet. Although, to be fair, I guess the weak link is the chain, not the ancor.
