Hi the title explains it all really, I am wondering if anyone can explain how I can deristrict this model and what restrictions there are. Thanks everyone!

An act of Parliament.
Moped 'Restrictions' are statutes of law, not facets of mechanics.
A change of specification from that declared by the manufacturer is a 'Modification'. Modify a moped so that it no longer meets the restrictions imposed by law, it is no longer a moped...
Modify a moped so that it is slightly less slow than as supplied by the manufacturer, and it is no longer a moped, and the moped 'restrictions', provided by licence entitlement of minimum age to ride one, and maximum speed one may go on one, remain... so back to top... you still need an Act of Parliament to alleviate those restrictions.

If of course you are asking how to modify your vehicle expressly in order to break the law, and ride outside licence entitlement and imposed speed limits... then 50cc?!? why bother? May as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb, and go get something 125cc or 600cc or 1000+cc that is equally illegal and will break rather more speed limits along the way.

Who said the OP doesn't already have a full licence but just likes a bit of self torture?

Most yam two strokes seem to have an exhaust restiction.

If you replace it and upjet the carb to suit you should get a bit more speed, well enough to stop cars harrasing you around town at least.

You might just find a washer welded into the header, in which case remove it and upjet the carb.

Get on a bigger bike? Much quicker/easier than modifying what you have... Rolling Eyes

Going faster or trying to go faster is rarely a good way to be 'safer'.

Cars that harass slower traffic harass slower traffic; doesn't much matter whether what's going slower than they would like is a moped, a push bike, an electric wheelchair, a milk-float, dustbin lorry, kiddie carrier, ferarri or a Hyabusa..

Meanwhile, clue is in the name, Mo-Ped, an abbreviation of "Motorised-Pedal-Cycle".. and regs around them were designed to put them into a performance envelope approximating to that of a push-bike, the motor saving so much effort to pedal.

And that is about all they are; a push bike you don't have to pedal... fit kid on a push bike can probably go faster, a lot faster actually... like twice as fast.. which is about as quick as many 125's! If they are fit enough. and they can do it without having to wear a crash hat, buy petrol, pay road tax, insurance, or display a registration number!!!

And there in lies the 'problem'; fact they have a reg-plate, and have to comply with all this 'expensive' red tape, and get so little for it.... But, remember what it is; a motorized push bike; and if you wouldn't take a push bike there, don't take a moped there!

Bottom line is, if you want to go quicker than a moped will go as supplied; then you could do it an awful lot more cheaply and with a heck of a lot less risk of running foul of the authorities getting a push bike, getting fit and pedaling hard.

If that's too much effort, and you don't mind breaking the law; then hung for a sheep as a lamb; get a bigger bike, and if you are trying to dodge getting hung.... take the number plate off! Or dick with an electric push bike that doesn't have to have one and can be modified to go as fast as a tuned moped, and dodge the tax and insurance as well as the fuzz!

That'll never work. He has hairy legs, too much wind resistance and would look awful in lycra.

I think (part of) what Mike is trying to say is that if you can legally ride a derestricted moped then you may as well just get a bigger bike. It'll be a whole lot less bother.
