My commute every morning goes past this abomination - a bus stop on a busy 6 exit roundabout. Buses can 100% not see me when I go past them to go to the exit just after the bus stop as I found for the 3rd time this morning.

Anyone else got particularly stupid chunks of road layout?

Could you cram more motor vehicle and cyclist conflicts in one road feature.

Because they might leave after 10 seconds, they might be there for 3 minutes...

That roundabout is a right clusterfuck stinkwheel :-/

this series of posts could run and run, I am 100% sure that bikers are not considered when designing roads.
a few we see daily...

Bad camber on bends or roundabouts
Grids on bends or even several!
Traffic islands that block filtering
Traffic lights in areas you cant see once at front of a queue (done this a few times... pretty embarrassing Razz)
POTHOLES!!!!
Heavily painted road marking on sharp bends or box junction hatched areas
Speed bumps with gaps in for us on bikes...BUT then a car parks and blocks the inside meaning you now have the choice of bump or opposite side of road.
Gravel or loose road surfaces through roadworks....or permanent!
Bike parking spots but nothing to lock the bike too :/
Expensive road tax...cheaper to tax cars these days!

I'm sure there are lots more Very Happy

I bet Autopilots (glorified cruise control) would like it though, if they can read road markings aswell as collision avoidance? Thinking

Pits you against the terminally stupid who will see a bus but not the bike before it, then be in their mirrors to attempt to pull round it - I'd rather not take that chance.

Hi

This is one I hate. Fortunately don't do there often these days:-

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9168085,-1.4110239,3a,75y,90h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sJHxO9c6YQvl3_InDIip_6w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1?hl=en

A fairly short section for vehicles to move on and off the dual carriageway, with the 'slip road' ending in a 90 degree bend. So you have people trying to get up to speed to join the main road at the same time as others are braking to make the corner, while loads are trying to swap from one lane to the other.

All the best

Katy

My pet peeve is here. Short exit lane from a 70 stretch, straight into a 90 degree bend in a 30 zone and then blammo, a roundabout. Had someone decide their bumper needs to meet my back tyre a couple of times, and it's not unusal for cars to jump the "island" altogether and stuff it into the trees. Fuckwits.

Looks fine, right?

https://i.imgur.com/gkjggY0.png

Except to the left it's now the main route to a new motorway, and to the right is a stadium, sports centre, a main route out of Glasgow and a set of multi-year roadworks causing traffic chaos. Most days its absolutely chocka going both directions within an hour of 8am or 5pm.

So you'd think drivers wouldn't need a yellow box to tell them not to block the junction, but apparently they do. There's a lonnnng wait for those lights, it blocks up pretty much every day, rampant horning occurs, and traffic sometimes bunches up so hard right in front of the junction ("Look! I'm trying to get out of your way!") that you can't even squeeze a bike through. It's like my own little slice of London.

Well done Bedford, you've managed to cock up the humble roundabout.

I like the crossing off each exit. Nice touch.

Bradford ring road. Assuming it used to be a dual carriageway, now three lanes. Roundabouts haven't been enlarged so if you find yourself in the middle lane then it's brown trousers time. Every day I see people braking, swerving or just apexing every roundabout and cutting off two lanes of traffic. Lorries try their best, but swinging out as wide as they can the radius is always too little and they take up 2.5 lanes.

Cambridge.

Pretty much all of it.

The particular speciality being traffic lights where the light on one side is green and the light on the other side is red.

And bicycle lanes that vary from "Almost all of the road" to "about 20cm"

I think they may be looking to add cycle lanes to it somehow, and the thick white lines on the roundabout are actually raised and bollarded. Shocked

I always find the way this small sliproad coming out of a 30mph town centre suddenly becomes lane 3 of the M8.

That was the intention, it was supposed to be a "Dutch style" roundabout with segregated lycropath lanes: https://road.cc/content/news/110661-uks-first-dutch-style-roundabout-gets-underway-bedford

I "quote" that because apparently they're nothing of the sort - there's no roundabout that crazy anywhere in the world.

It's more likely some planner hit the bong way too hard, then nobody had the nerve to scrap his deranged scribblings.

Hemel Hempstead got its name from massive production of ganja.....which explains this:

https://www.hemeltoday.co.uk/webimage/1.3397477.1329303422!/image/1307923931.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_595/1307923931.jpg

It looks a simple enough concept, but add tailbacks in every direction and when drivers finally make it to the front, they take each roundabout at 100mph and don't signal, because what’s the point in signalling anything in that monstrosity except "out the fucking way, I'm coming through".

That looks like the old Sadlers Farm roundabout - apart from Sadlers Farm has been dug up and now features under and over passes instead.

Some humongous dunderhead won an award for innovation for coming up with this genius piece of fuckwittery.

Bearing in mind that this was a blank canvas about five years ago. Only London Road was there. To the left and right were nothing but cleared away brick pits.

Jimmy Genius decides to build a housing estate on it. Then makes it so that cars have to follow the roads which I marked in red, so London Road through the middle is for buses only (in blue.)

This is an area which is attracting a lot of young families. Affordable housing and shared ownership. So they divert the bulk of the traffic through the housing estates, keeping the wide, main road for the odd bus.

I hope the next certificate the inventor of this bumblefuckery gets is preceded by the word 'death.'

most of the new islands in worcester now have a ped crossing just off the main routes

so many neer misses and cars being rear ended

also m5 at moment with its new smart layout

most days there is an accident on the stretch by me due to the lanes being far too narrow whilst the work is being done

why they didnt just put it down to two lanes rather then try and fit three in the same space i will never know

most accidents seem to involve lorries as they have just enough room to pass in the middle lane slight steer and bang they hit someones mirror which causes them to either brake or turn causing another accident

Indeed. There's a few issues around that part of the M8.

Now to be fair, there are probably a lot of kids in those estates and it'll save them having to build more schools.
