Ellopeeps.

I'm changing everything other than the headlamp on the Enfield to LED, and one thing I noticed is that the pilot light/position indicator light/call it what you like stays lit when the headlamp is on. The YBR is even more annoying, as it has an always-on headlamp, so the pilot light is pointless.

According to the MOT manual :-

Quote:
Front position lamps and headlamps
A motor bicycle (with or without a side car) fitted with a headlamp need not have a front position lamp (but must have one on the side car, if a side car is fitted).


But then states :-

Quote:
1. With the front and rear position lamps switched on, check the lamps for (See information column).

a. presence
b. condition
Note: At least 50% of light sources in a lamp must illuminate
c. security.
d. fitment and visibility


Now I'm going to have a bash at wiring it so that it goes off when the headlamp is on (gotta save those Watts), but this hints at it not being necessary, then says it is.

I'm guessing it's only required if the switch for it is present, but can anyone shine some light on the actual MOT requirement?

Just whack a w5w fitment led lamp in it. It will use less than a watt in operation.

That is an odd one. Thinking

They say: This inspection applies to: all machines, except those which have neither front nor rear position lamps.

Meaning, I would not bother. It would be very odd to force people to modify their once proclaimed road legal machines. Just like everyhing made before 1975 in CZE don't have to have rear view mirrors nor seat belts, no one can force you to mount them. Thumbs Up

I think it means, *if* present, check B, C and D.

Mine is still attached to the loom, but stashed in the back of the headlamp, as this (temp) one does not have a position lamp. The guy checking my wiring is also my MOT tester, he saw no issues with it when I raised t directly with him. YMMV.

When taking my old machines for MoT, the tester informed me that if there's a hole in the reflector for a bulb, it must have a working one it. If there's no hole, there's no need for a bulb. Not sure if this applies to more modern stuff though - newest bike I have is 28 years old Smile
