Extra points for counting my OCD unnecessary indicator cancellations.
I'm so glad for the braided hoses and that the new pads are all properly bedded in. ____________________

As we're talking Corsa near misses - it inspired me to upload my Corsa episode from last night too:
Lesson in why not to be an amber gambler - (I chalk this one up as 40/60 my fault):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzLh_39h0QI
(You can just hear the cyclist saying 'Fahhhhking 'elllll!" afterwards)
I was heading along Commercial road, a guy was fannying around in an Audi in the left hand lane, so I moved out into lane 2 (maybe I should've stopped and let him go, but I didn't, because Lahndahn...), I was about to go back into lane 1 (it's a bus lane most of the way down, but bikes are allowed to use it) - as I was moving back into lane 1, I noticed a pedestrian ambling across, so I stayed central before planning on moving back over afterwards - then the lights went amber (I should've probably stopped here too, but I didn't, because Lahndahn...) - I don't usually f'ck around on ambers, but I thought it'd involve heavy braking [trying to stop for the line], so I continued, thinking I could easily make it across without any drama.
It actually looks fairly tame on the video, but that was a full-on emergency stop - the rear end went very light (to the point of me thinking the rear wheel would leave the ground) - I could feel the ABS scrabbling for traction & hear the rear tyre skidding a bit - the front was nicely planted and I didn't feel the ABS activate up front.
As I was on the Hornet, I cancelled my indicators for a full two seconds (thanks for moving the button, Honda), although in hindsight it was probably better than sounding the horn and the Corsa stopping (so, uh, thanks Honda) ____________________ '12 NC700S & '12 CB600F Hornet [Stolen by some dickless twat] Suzuki GT500 shed |

But to bring you up on that 'filtering' you just described. Generally, when people do filtering, it's slowish, and you keep yourself in the middle and pretty upright. At ~45seconds on your veejo, you are seen to be weaving around that white van like a loony.
I understand, Corsa 'driver' needs to make peace with a higher being sooner than later driving like that. But by god, man, that riding afterwards only made you look more of a tool. |
45s was a simple filter between killer lorry and quadrospaz disabling van, it probably looks closer than in real life. The lanes after it have changed recently so I didn't want to be anywhere near them as it now merges to 2 not 3 lanes.
The weaving prior to 45s is out of character, normally would ignore but this was totally not cool that day, and I wanted to make it clear the perps standard of driving was total shite. I did internally debate (whilst slowing) having it out with sweary words at the lights but then I'm not a real traffic copper so could have been done for impersonating. Red mist dissapated, carried on. ____________________

OP being the very first time on the open road...

I don't quite get why you were accelerating, when you were supposed to be slowing down. Not saying the Corsa driver didn't do something wrong, but still, why? Here you had 2 lanes in your direction, quite dense traffic, etc., opening the throttle is not the best thing to do in such situation.

Always the biker at fault, even on a bike oriented forum?!
What gives, is it the fish eye distortion making it look too fast/close?
I didn't post asking for riding tips, Christ there's enough opinions already.
I posted for general awareness so there's a chance others may not get caught out. I've never seen anyone cut the exit lane that badly unless it's on car crash tv.
This is motorway exit slip road, 70mph until the end, and the end which is traffic light controlled was miles away, the exit lane for me was clear enough in UK traffic terms to make progress safely, with an eye on dickheads in the left lane moving without indication. The limit on the road thereafter is 40mph enforced by camera. Visibly was good, weather was dry and not that cold.
Generally I'll make progress where progress is possible under those conditions, I'm not involved in incidents like this every day so I'll continue to moderate my riding to the prevailing conditions.
Unpredictable drivers, riders, stray cattle, barbed wire - these can all kill or maim so should we ride at 5mph or just stay at home?
Lessons learned above seems to be just ignore dangerous drivers, and it's my fault for getting in his way! just need "if I'd have done 120mph I'd have been well clear of it" for BCF bingo

You get it all wrong, it's not us versus them, it never was. Yes, it would have been fault of the Corsa driver and it might looked faster than it was. After all, you downshifted 2-3 times and over took that red car that seemed to be about 30 meters away at start.
All I'm trying to say, drive more defensively, when there's dense traffic ahead of you. If you didn't over take the red car, you would have more time to see the Corsa cxnt and have more space to react.
Also, and that was pointed out already, don't get mad when riding. You telling the culprit to feck off and the left hand gestures are just yet another distraction that might going to not end well for you some day.
Keep it safe.
Love the #Baklaff reference, by the way. Comedy gold. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ
