I`m guessing you like a bit of Northern Soul
I remember going to the Blackpool Ballroom in the late 70`s .
Being a southerner and being used to dark discos with main stream tunes.
It was a breath of fresh air and a revelation to go to a venue where the lights were not all off and the music was from another planet.
Seeing people turn up with kit bags and talc for the floor was new to me.

Yeah I used to be into it, but being a southerner, I wasn't in the scene, although my cousin was from Scunthorpe and would keep me abreast of the scene. I was always into the more funky shit as a kid, I loved the old Jamaican Ska when I was about 8 or 9 and would go spend my monies on import vinyl, then I got into American Soul when I was about 13, then into Northern Soul, which was pretty much a fluid thing. |
