My dad had one. Capable, Efficient and sensible if ultimately a bit dull. A BMW Deauville. I quite liked the looks myself.
His was new but didn't have any problems in 3 years of ownership (although didn't do big mileage either).
Panniers were a bit of a faff but they did expand to take a full face lid and go small again if not needed so can still filter. Also has a bit of a rack on the back to strap shit to it I remember correctly.
Oh and I think it had some weird indicator switchgear arrangement where left button is on left handlebar and right button on right handlebar. Took some getting used to.
Sounds like a relatively sensible option from your OP. ____________________ Bikers make great organ donors - add your name to the register

Was also looking at one of these to replace my FZS600 for commuting into London once the ULEZ penalisation comes in. Not ridden one, but I just get the impression it'll feel a bit boring compared to my 95bhp Fazer, albeit a very practical and economical. For similar moneys I can't help but think I should just opt for an FZ1, have more fun, recycle more dinosaurs and stick two fingers up to economy! ____________________ Beginner Biker Adventures Blog

The BMW delivers a decent whack of torque low down and in the midrange, but the FZS600 is indeed smoother and more frisky up top - too much so for me. I get 65mpg out of my midi-GS when commuting, and that's downgeared a tooth on the front.

It's a heck of a lot cleaner, quieter and less hassle than a chain though. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I test rode one and wasn't that keen:
slow/low speed felt a bit lumpy and jerky when filtering or in stop start traffic
kept struggling to cancel indicators and randomly honking at people while trying to indicate
fairly minor but enough to put me off at the time. ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

An 'acquaintance' has one (nice guy but I don't see him very often).
He's very happy with it and thinks it's a very underrated bike. Having said that, he doesn't commute on it...
I don't disbelieve him when he says it's a good ride etc, although I was a bit sceptical when he mentioned that the BMW Motorad dealer he had it looked over by wasn't condescending in any way ____________________ The above comment isn't necessarily the truth and anyone that says it is, is only correct if it's the truth or they're bigger than me. |
