My friend has just picked up a CBF125 with about 3000 miles on the clock. Everything seemed fine until the other day the bike needed 5-6 attempts to start it while giving it throttle at the same time, every time the bike was turned off it was having a lot of trouble kicking in. No clicking or unusual sounds just like the starter was turning but it wasn't catching and then giving up.. Earlier today we had to bump start it to get the bike going.

Took it to mine and my first thought was the battery, so I got out the volt meter and everything checked out, stable 12.8v when off, dropped to about 11v while starting, idle at 13.5v and high revs being 14.3v.

Somehow since taking the seat and panelling off the bike it seemed to start straight away on button press while we were working on it over and over again.. considering every time it was getting harder and harder to start the bike and it suddenly it being fine after removing the seats and some panelling and checking the battery I find this odd.

Other than that, one issue I didn't like... on turning the ignition there was another 'buzzing' sound during/after the fuel pump priming sound for maybe 2 seconds. We took off the panel and decided the sound was coming from somewhere in or by the throttle body assembly / injector.

I'm no mechanic so I have no idea what could be making that horrible buzzing sound. I owned a cbf125 from the same year myself and never heard that whole year I owned the bike.

Something slightly unrelated is an intermittent fault with the indicators.. Sometimes they just won't work at all, next thing they're flashing too fast / too slow / constantly changing speed. Then they won't work again.

I don't believe these two are connected but then if there was some form of electrical shorting they may well be.

My friend doesn't have the money right now to take the bike to a garage to have a look so we're basically trying to narrow what could be wrong down so we can attempt to sort it ourselves. Does anyone have any ideas out there?

Seat and or panels trapping wires?

I'd like to think that was the case with the bike starting, although I couldn't see anything that was getting trapped at first glace. Once the bike started it didn't cut out.

It was still making the odd sound from the throttle body area with the panels off which is what is really bugging me, I can't think what could be making that sort of sound. And the indicators were playing up with or without panels.

I guess we'll see how it goes though I can't see taking off bodywork and the seats and putting them back on being a full fix, there must be something going on.

You maybe checking the battery but is the battery connected to the bike ?
Check the connections from the battery onwards.
