Looking for my first big bike, sports bikes seem to be anything but nimble from how I imagine them at least so I am wondering what upright bikes have you guys had that you considered to be nimble, fast and upright?

I like fazers, bandits, supermotos. Would want to be able to ride in comfort but get tucked in and switch to sporty when wanted. A good all rounder basically?

Suggestions? [/b]

Street Triple.....honestly, fantastic bikes. Very nimble, superb brakes (I had the R, but I imagine the non R would still be great), a lot of torque for a 600 class engine.

Its on the sporty side of upright as well.

I've recently picked up a ZR-7S as my first big bike after a while on a 125cc and it meets the basics of what you're looking for: upright seating position, fast enough for me, screen so you can tuck in. Sits at 4,000rpm in 2nd gear doing 30mph happily and munches the miles with ease, roll on the throttle a bit and you're doing 40mph (that's where I stop) to overtake in no time. I did one earlier and wondered why the cars behind me had dropped back so much, not willy waving but it's got the poke when you need it. I haven't gone beyond that yet just because inner city commute. I will counter that with it is quite heavy and the brakes aren't the best but I'm considering it a good investment thus far, early days.

Fazer 600 comes well recommended.

ER6F.

Bandit 600 I've sat on and liked the upright seating position, location of dials, switches etc but did find it hefty. ZR-7S is approx 200kg + but is easily manageable, not sure where it carries its weight, compared to a top heavy Bandit 600 so consider that and possibly test ride to either eliminate or confirm if it suits your needs.

MT-03 ticks 2 out 3 of those boxes, it's not fast though (by bike standards). MT-09? Duke 690 maybe?

To get close to all 3, (and be a good buy)... hornet 600.
All 3.....striple or Mt 09.
Er6/mt07 good, but not 'fun' after striple or Mt 09.
Z800, gsr750z, shiver750 and hornet 900 also worth a look.

That's a whole different ballpark.
When you say supermoto you are into the dark place...cr500 2 stroke..or, off the peg lexmoto adrenaline....it's a massive playground...like 'streetfighter'...

If it's your first big bike (and assuming you've now got your full licence), I hope you're working with a sub-£2.5k budget.
However until you confirm your budget it's pretty impossible to recommend anything.

Assuming serious, FZS600 / FZ6 is fine.

I tried an FZS600. Better riding position and it felt more responsive low down than a CBR600F, more agile and revvier than a Bandit 650. Seems like a better tank range than a Hornet 600, and comparing top ends on the public road is pretty much academic sporran-waggling.

I'd be looking at reasons not to get the Fazer for your purposes.

You'd imagine wrong for the first part.

Depends on how you define 'nimble', but most are very quick steering.

Many come with steering dampers as standard because they're so quick steering they tend to be quite unstable.

Supermotos tend to be pretty quick steering by nature, at least if you get a 'proper' one.

Sticking wide bars on any bike will also additionally give the impression it's quite steering as you need less force for the same turning.

Okay - but first define "nimble" because you seem to be somewhat outside the consensus here.

Hint - highly nimble bikes include CB250RS, 250 Hornet, Yamaha Zeal, etc.

KTM 990 SMT. Seriously the best all round road bike I've ever ridden. Not good for short people, though, so if you're stumpy I'd give it a miss.

Just for "nimble", and out of the bikes suggested so far, Street Triple over FZS600 for sure. Both good bikes, both fast up to a point. Street Triple feels more sporty, Fazer a better all-rounder.

Why would anyone recommend bikes they have no experience of?

Well not if you owned an R6; it wouldn't fit the bill.

You can test ride a bike and recommend it.

We seem to have differing ideas about "Nimble".

Personally, when looking for a Nimble bike, I'd be looking at 'crossers changed over to Talon rims with sticky road tyres on, well done ones will stuff a sportsbike in any corner up to about 70. It's also fucking brilliant passing a knee down weekend hero, on the outside, bolt upright with your foot out by the front wheel.

I would class modern supersports as "twitchy" rather than nimble, but I'll be honest, my wrist means I very rarely ride them, and usually turn the opportunity down.

When discussing Nimble bikes, I would not be thinking about Honda Hornets and MT-07's (lots of people bitch about the stock suspension).

A better definition of "Nimble" and what you want to dso may help us narrow it down.

My XJ6 is as nimble as a nimble thing, Not overly fast, but still tops 130, gets there reasonably fast for a 78BHP engine and is great for everything from hooning around the countryside to following peds on a CBT.

Get the naked one though, its good fun.

Striple. Handles and feels like a 250.

That feeling of floating on a carpet with nothing but air beneath is what my 125 felt like. Striple is as close to that without sacrificing too much power.

Daytona and 600RR would surely come pretty close though (clearly not naked, but mega light). Would also thing KTM690 worth a try because 147kg innit.

I've ridden a few bikes over the years, and the most nimble 'big' bike so far has been the Street Triple. Like riding a FS1E on steroids....

I'm always going to recommend a Street Triple if someone wants agility and speed but for a little more comfort with slightly better wind protection it would have to be an MT10.
Plus its a fucking beast, not for the fainthearted.
