Got my gasket set today. Nowhere near cyl head fitment stage, will be assembling the crankcase halves tomorrow.
However, my query (are you about Teflon-Mike?) is that the set has come with two head gaskets, one composite and the other a metal one, very thin with pre-formed ridges, and looks as delicate as the gasket on a GM car EGR valve. Which to use?

Are you sure the composite gasket is not a base gasket?

The thin one sounds like a normal MLS gasket. They are very good but you do need to make sure the mating faces are absolutely fastidiously clean.

Bike is an LA250 Custom, engine unit is MC06E. This engine is also fitted to the CD250U and CMX250 Rebel. Also fitted to CB250 Nighthawk and CB250 (not Dream or G5) with slightly different engine type number.
The 1988 CD250U gives the gasket as number 12251KB4671 (composite) superceded by 12251KB4315 (a search on eBay shows the metal type under this part number). As it is considerably thinner, I am wary of using it, even though the metal one is shown as a supercession.

Pete - the composite one is deffo not the base gasket, totally different shape. My head and the top of the barrel both have immaculate and flat surfaces but I'm unsure what to do!
