|
|
I've got a weird problem that's damn annoying on my Windows Vista PC.
When I have a folder containing photos and video (typically stuff I've transferred from my phone) I can use photo gallery to browse through the photos but when it gets to a video file (.mp4, normally) it crashes windows explorer.
The video files are associated with GOM player, with a GOM player icon, and not associated with photo gallery in default programs, but photo gallery insists on trying to preview them if I'm scrolling via the left-right buttons.
This doesn't happen very often but a by-product of it crashing windows explorer is that it will re-arrange all of my desktop items, and that right royally ticks me off.
Any ideas how I can prevent photo gallery attempting to preview video files? ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I don't think there is a way to do that directly, but if you want it upgraded to 7 which will 100% remove that issue, let me know.
I can probably provide you with Windows 10 or similar, but 7 would be best, Vista needs to be taken to the bin and set on fire. |

Can’t you just remove Gom player and use the Windows Media Player as the default? It’s unlikely to crash then. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Thanks for the replies (and the kind offer Paddy).
I won't be rebuilding this machine, probably get a much more modern one and keep the HDD as a permanent backup.
As for my problem I installed a codec pack and whilst it still doesn't play video files in photo gallery, it now gives a 'cannot open this file' error rather than crashing explorer. I'm perfectly happy with that so I think I'll call it done ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
