PostPosted: 16:48 - 13 Aug 2004    Post subject: Gilera DNA 50 starting/idle speed Reply with quote

My gilera dna has trouble starting, it will never start with just the electric start (even after being fully warmed up, e.g service station), the throttle has to be opened fully before it fires.

When it does start, it does not tick over very well, it misfires and then eventually stops.

I have adjusted the idle speed and when it does tick over it ticks over at 2000rpm.

After the bike has warmed up, it is fine.

The bike started fine when i got it, 1 month ago, so i dont really understand why it doesnt start very well

Any help would be appreciated

maybe the choke wont open properly. that would explain why it only runs badly when its cold.

My friend has a Gilera Stalker (same engine as DNA) and he has the same problem. When he starts it, it stalls very quickly. But once it has warmed up, it ticks over quite high, if anybody knows whats wrong, please let us kno...

Thanks...

Ben!

is it 4\ or 2\? know i could look this up myself but don't have time. sounds a bit like it could be a spark problem, so make sure that there is nothing wrong with ur coils/CDI or plug.

Get a manual choke fitted, they cost about a tenner and most garages sell them/should be able to get them. Getting rid of your auto choke makes it ten times easier to start.

if the wheel is wobbling the wheel bearings have probley gone which is a MOT failer, the bearings them self are cheap but they need to be pressed in which a garage would have to do if you don,t have the equiment (i.e a flypress)
