Not so much Workshop as Dear Auntie BCF?

It'll look like you use your bike as a tool rather than a toy. Haterz best step off.

I do and I dont want one, sure they're practical and useful and dont look too bad on other bikes Ive seen with them - but this is a torque-eater made for fun and to look mean.

I have a big 40-odd litre jobby on the Aprilia. It looks wank but she ain't the prettiest belle at the ball anyway and it's nice to launch my shit in there and have room for waterproofs etc.

End of the day the only person that gives a fuck is you.

This.

I wrestled with throwover panniers and lashed rucksacks to the pillion seat until I realised that for most of my riding I am going somewhere carrying something (whether to work with my clothes/laptop or away on a weekend tour). The topbox was a revelation. Pack it easily in the comfort of your home, walk up to bike, 'click', get on with riding.

Yes, it looks a bit fuddy-duddy but then you can't see it when you're riding*.

*Actually you can see it in the mirrors, which for the first few miles was a constant source of "FUCK!!! WHERE DID THEY COME FROM??!! Oh, it's my topbox". "FUCK!! WHERE DID THEY COME FROM??!...." and so forth.

I don't think they actually reduce the torques, and everyone else thinks you look like a queue jumping criminal anyway.

So you do not want one, or you don't not want one? Neutral

Fit a Pelicase or similar, something square-ish - ie not a curvy givi box with red bits on. That way you have a chance of retaining any meanness you think its got.

(Crap example) My DR:

Though I can't fit a helmet in it, laptop and bag is no problem.

@weasley - i dont have wingmirrors on so that wont be an issue until I do my lifesavers Very Happy

@roserborg - i know they dont take away any of the torque but it does make it look a bit more pussy-esque and less mean.

@smallfrowne - if i do get one then I'd be looking at something like that, nobodys ever getting on the back of my duke 2 so I have no need to carry round items such as spare helmet etc

@adsrox0r - I do give a fuck on the look, love the look of my duke 2 and fear a topbox will kill my appreciative look, though carrying a massive rucksack around is proving a pain in the netherregions - i need to figure out which is the lesser of 2 evils.

The fact you care about your bike looking mean also makes it look less mean and more -pussy-esque Wink.

If it makes your decision any easier, the Duke 2 looks weak-sauce at the side of a proper SuMo anyway...

His looks lots of fun.

Yours looks pretty boring next to it.
Similar power, but a much flatter power delivery and getting on for 50% more weight.

Though, while I really fancy giving a 250 2 stroke SM a go, that linear power delivery is nice for easy messing about.

(I do have a KTM690 it should be noted... also a 200 and 144 2 stroke, though only ridden the 690 with SM wheels.)

I wouldn't say a Duke 640 is boring to look at or probably to ride either. Aren't they 58bhp the same as a CB 500, but with 30kg or so less mass.

I like OP, he dissed a stroker as being meh! Would buy him a pint for saying that ''fuck your stroker very much I like my black thumper much more'' Laughing

250 2t MX bikes arnt the holy grail, or the best SM recipe for a street wannabe either. It seems to me that some people still only identify a supermoto as a competition non road legal bike, with number boards and slicks, and anything else is just homosexual and faggot material?

But he is highly homosexual if he is giving any fucks about how his KTM looks with a top box on it. Its 4bolts to take it off, so it shouldn't be an issue?

Also he says his black 640 is aggressive too, only to some bike riders and probably mostly non bikers. Some Streetfigher owners would say any naked bike without 4cylinders under the renthal bars is for pussys and cannot by default be aggressive.

It sounds a bit like he is checking himself out in shop windows to see if he looks hard and boss enough. Trying to do anything deliberately is just always full of fail and looks shit.

No cult bike ever became one because the owners wished it to happen. Its just what goes down in history that gives reputations, nothing else!

No.

Top box stays on the bike, do not carry around a top box! It looks bloody stupid, and you should be using it to put the stuff you dont want to carry around!

I carry it from the house to the garage when I have packed it for a weekend away. For a commute or pop to the shops, yes, the 'box stays on the rack.

Jumping off the super boss, all man, all mean 640 and then wheeling a little trolley along may not be the image OP is after.
