When you're out riding where do you stash your disc lock?

On my last few bikes I was able to secure the pouch the locks come with onto the pillion footpeg bar (sorry not sure what the proper name for it is) and keep the lock in the pouch. Going to check out a bike tomorrow which doesn't have this (removed for styling purposes I assume).

When I'm commuting I have a rucksack so I suppose I can keep it in there, but it's a faff to take bag off, open bag, close bag, wear bag.

So where do you keep yours? Has anyone found an ingenious way to attach the lock to the bike?

Thumbs Up

I think I can fit a one gallon container under my ZRX1200 seat (it has a battery relocation mod which sits it above the starter motor, sort of under the tank instead of directly under the seat), so that's where it goes, along with a waterproof cover and some winter gloves....

No use to you of course, perhaps carry it in one of those small tank bags, or a back pack?

under pillion seat cover is an option, forgot about that one but then it depends on size and shape of the lock.

Not keen on having it in my jacket pocket in case of an off. Don't fancy landing on the lock digging into my sides.

my virago has a small lockable compartment built into the sissy bar, it's where I keep my disc lock but hey, cruisers....

I don't think it's a good idea to have it in a pocket in case of an off.

I prefer it in my front pocket rather than in my back pack. It does not move about and isn't going to jab me in the spine when I come off.

My gut has much more padding Smile

Same here, but only because then it's always there to use.

I'm now in the habit of using it whenever the bike is parked, and it definitely helps being immediately to hand.

Thumbs Up

No reason to make a mountain out of a molehill, padlocks are small and light enough to go just about anywhere: pocket, backpack, under the seat, tail bag, topbox, panniers, tankbag etc.

Put it anywhere it all fit.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. But then, many people do and live a happy life. Thinking

I once crashed a motorcycle with my house keys in my right motorcycle trousers pocket. Never again, painful stuff. A big block of metal doing the same to your chest sure can't be fun.

Magnetic tank bags is something I love, easiest mount for gps/phone, easy to get and remove, accessible within seconds, well worth the £60, I usually grab it with me on rideouts, if i know I'll be making lots of stops especially, you can get a fairly small and sleek one for £50/60 or way less if you go get a used one.

Just be careful not to get metal stuck under... will be needing a tank repaint soon Smile

Mine came with a bracket which I mummified with cable ties on to the bar which goes to the Givi Box shelf.
On my last bike, I could fit it over the pillion foot peg with no chance of it falling off.

I can manage to get one disc lock under my pillion seat on the ER6f but, only just and to do so, I have to take out the emergency tool kit that's under there. I figured though, that there's no point keeping the tool kit under there if I've got no bike because some b'stard has nicked it.

However, if I'm travelling down to my dads in one of the less desirable areas of Liverpool, I take a rucksack with two alarmed disc locks and a fairly hefty chain, as I can chain it to the iron railings outside the window.

Not much use if you only have a cover, but the pillion-seat for your bike looks similar to my ZX6R's.

I used to pop the seat on whenever I needed to take the disc lock somewhere and lock it around the strap. Might not work with all locks though I guess depending on the size.

I used to use the little pouch thing it comes with strapped round my handlebars, but if I'm going anywhere on the 400, I have a rucksack usually and anywhere on the 250 I don't leave it anywhere if I can't see it, but I'm never running errands with the 250, always just playing. Laughing

My TTR 250 had a tool pouch on the back, I used to have a little tool (bodge it home) kit I'd put in there if I was going off-road, and the lock would go in there, or the Varadero was under the seat or strapped to the handlebars. Normally what I used was a combination lock wrapped round a wing mirror as it's longer so can lock to something else as well as through the disc, and being coiled wouldn't take up much more room than my disc lock. Thumbs Up
