I have no say in whether a particular person is voted out unless I happen to live in their seat.
The EU president is nominated by the national leaders, who are elected, and voted for by the European Parliament, also elected. Then the president selects their commissioners, just as the UK PM selects cabinet members, except they do so with consultation with member states who help choose their commissioner, which doesn't happen in the UK. And everything they do has to be approved by the European Parliament. Is it different from the UK system? Yes, obviously, you're trying to make a governing body from 27 member states. Is it "less democratic"? Not really. It's all representative (rather than direct) democracy. ____________________ Current - '94 VFR750FR, '00 VFR800FI Previous - '10 Street Triple R, '92 MZ ETZ301, '05 TTR250, NSR125R, KMX125, "Honda" Win (chinese copy of an old Honda design with a C90 engine)

Are we forgetting the Merkel immigration debacle and the disastrous responses to the 2008 economic crash?
Never mind all that though. Bottom line: I believe in country, with borders, self determination, and all the historic and cultural meaning that gives us. I believe the EU erodes and attacks all of this, and I don't see any need for it.
The EU has failed to lay out for me a future I can get behind that beats everything our country is built on. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Mutual agreement verses invading a large proportion of the world and just helping ourselves to their resources in the name of 'civilising' them?
|
Thank you. You have just confirmed for me that I am right. I'm not interested in a world where history is constantly brought up to attack me with, rather than to learn from. People like that should not be listened to, because they have no positive contribution to make.
Nor do any of the less glorious things in our history nullify the great achievements and the good things we have done. If you think they do, apply that to yourself and see how you get on.
And it's 'versus'. I'm sorry, but I can't take political education from an illiterate.
Now get back to your miserable, stingy socialist life ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I'm not really interested in what a socialist finds funny because they don't understand humour, demonstrated in their inappropriate attempts to apply it. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

So here's a little thought exercise for you Nobby, if you're up to it. Germany is at the heart of the EU, yes? Think about their history, and apply the same lack of forgiveness. Or how about the Spanish empire, the conquistadors, the inquisition and all that is associated with their history - or the history of a hundred other countries, stretching all the way back.
Now think about a bad thing you have done in your past, even if only a bad thought that you have had. Now are you to be forever judged by that? No matter what you do, no matter what charitable works you may do, or if you invent a cure for cancer, or solve worldwide poverty - nothing, NOTHNG will ever bring you forgiveness, there is absolutely no redemption for you for as long as you live. Like that, do you?
Your kind of thinking will only ever bring hatred, self loathing, and misery to the world. You will never make a good contribution based on your kind of logic. What would be the point? No one will ever appreciate it.
Britain has much to be proud of, perhaps more than any other country. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

It's a real-world standing on the shoulders of giants and thinking you're flying moment, isn't it. The hard left spit down at those from the past that are carrying us to an ever better world because they don't meet the high moralistic standards of the society they're trying to usher in. Yet on many occasions they show their true colours and you get to see just how much hate / intolerance they have inside them - they just aim it in a different direction. |

Another thing that demonstrates Nobby's hypocrisy. Not long ago, he defended me against mpd72 by suggesting that the contribution I had made to my country by serving in the Armed Forces was a thing to be proud of, that I had given something real. Now, he has just undermined that, and all the service to country made by all our servicemen across history by saying it was all for a nation built on oppression and shame, that never did anything good.
I have one thing to say to people like Nobby - if you don't like your country, you are more than welcome to f*** off elsewhere. I'm sure someplace else would welcome you with open arms, and provide you with the standard of life you have been accustomed to. North Korea should suit you well ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I agree with that. Part of the reason we are in the shit we are at the moment is because some on the Left have made the Labour Party unelectable, thus giving our current bumbling idiot his majority.

Really? At least do the decent thing and vote Green instead. Even LibDem at an absolute pinch, but not Conservative!!! ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

Sadly the closet thing we have to a loon is the mop-haired gonk currently residing at No.10. I suspect people voted for him because of his unconventionality... ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M
