Facts? Yeah right.

You think most of our exports go to the EU do you?

You're living in the past, i used to use all these 44% of our exports go to the eu nevermind the rotterdam effect argument, it doesn't stack up

FTA is all bollocks, it's about customs and regulation, the reason we have no trade deal with the US is for example, the EU bans over 1000 chemicals that go in to makeup, the US bans about 10, it will take years to break down those barriers, and you can dream on if you think westminster, will remove these bans, they said they would cut red tape in the tory manifesto and have they done it? have they bollocks.

You're making the job hard just to have the power, to control migration, which the government won't do anyway, we have a remainer leader, don't forget it.

Here is another example of why it's not all black and white as per doing trade deals

We've got to be smart and unique, rather than expecting people to bow down to us.

i fucking love arguing brexit with remainers and hard leavers, as they're both as equally nuts and unrealistic.

Woman found dead in Bristol gorge 'feared deportation' after Brexit vote

Quote:
An inquest heard that Macarron’Arroyo, a care worker, had suffered depression and was dealing with a number of problems.

Quote:
Avon coroner’s court was told on Tuesday Macarron’Arroyo was troubled by work problems at the time of her death. She also lacked close family ties apart from with her mother, who lived in Madrid, and had been receiving letters relating to tax arrears.

Quote:
Her GP, Dr Victoria Bowler, of Eastville medical practice, said she had struggled with depression. She also suffered from a chronic pain illness dating back to 2003.

But let's all just blame Brexit Rolling Eyes

That was a complex and sad tale. Wrong thread though, it should have been posted in the, "Is the mainstream media damaging society?" thread because,
Quote:
Macarron’Arroyo was down about Brexit and felt less welcome in the UK following the vote. “Miriam had felt she fitted in well here. But Brexit upset her. She felt the message was that people like her were coming over and taking jobs. She felt the press was being very negative.”

She did not believe Macarron’Arroyo was the subject of any direct abuse. “It was more subliminal,” said Tidman. “She felt it. The media is very powerful. She wanted to stay here. She didn’t want to return to Spain but she wasn’t convinced she would be able to stay."

My employer has asked for a number of people to submit their passport details, without mentioning Brexit but it was obviously the reason. They sprinkled a few non-immigrants in but I didn't bother to accept the "invitation". I was actually surprised that others dutifully conformed.

There was a German woman on Radio 4 during the week, a U.K. resident for years, married to a Brit and with two kids born here, saying she was worried she'd be deported. Ridiculous!

Why so?

They can get seriously stiffed for employing people with no right to work in the UK so more likely to be that I would have thought.

No reason for any company to be worried about EU employees yet if at all so only an idiot would spend time and money on it. If it eventually goes that tits up, there will be plenty of deported Brit pensioners coming back from Spain looking for work Evil or Very Mad

Probably not. Somebody would have decided it should happen for some reason - just not clear why that would be the Brexit vote.

First time ever. It's a blue chip company employing graduate professionals. This comes at a time when the media is full of talk of EU Nationals being sent home post-Brexit. Nonsense in my opinion, but I can't help feeling that HR's request for passports is connected.

Its normal nowadays for big companies to do proper identity checks when they hire someone - known in the trade as BC but used to be called BPSS once upon a time. If they are only doing it now, it would seem strange but they should really give some sort of explanation

The recent stiffening of penalties for employers that engage illegals is probably the reason that employers are now making sure that all of the correct identity checks etc are now (belatedly) being carried out. Employers can now be given up to 5 years in the big house and/or fined up to 20k per illegal.
The changes were dreamed up a long time ago and are contained within The Immigration Act 2016.
Fuckall to do with Brexit.

I was sent a reminder to show HR my passport so I did so today. Lucky actually, it reminded me that it expires in June. I'm sure you're right about it being related to The Immigration Act 2016 but the email also specifically referenced Brexit.

Probably written by a bolloxhead Remainer HR donkey. Why not ask them how Brexit is involved?

It's pretty obvious the Remainers actually believe we're going to be rounding up foreigners into cattle trucks and shipping them back to The Continent on pain of death. That's what the idiots think Brexit means. Still, they're dutifully preparing the passenger list.

Probably only "following orders" - heard that before somewhere.

When HR get smart black uniforms and start sending people to Butlins it will be too late - mark my words!

No reason not to ask them why they have referenced Brexit though Thumbs Up

Shortly after the referendum the company I worked for sent out 'reassuring' letters to anyone a bit foreign looking. One Norwegian guy got one Thinking

I annually have to bring in my ID for CRB check, just in case I've done a stretch in prison on the sly or something.
