On a late night group ride.. when..

a car pulled out...

would have been 100% avoidable if the car had a rainpal system fitted.

broken femur, leg and wrist on rider... ankle on pillion.

How fast were they going out of interest? (Not to give a lecture or anything, I'm hardly an example on the road)

I take it that those are the fork stanchions snapped with the springs sticking out?! Well done for not being deaded let alone potatoed. Buy a lottery ticket now.

Seriously, the femur is the biggest and strongest bone in the body so to break that takes some serious energy. Did you break another bone in your leg(s) though as you mention two 'leg' breaks?

GWS.

ETA, just re-reading the post and it's not entirely clear if this was you or a mate? Not a big deal as the same opinion applies just seeking clarity...

This is BCF. All forks are bent, all frames are twisted and all chains are slack. This is the specification for all bike pictures posted here.

Yikes, bit messy that. Glad you both aren't too battered. Judging from the condition of that Fazer and the car, things could so easily have been worse.

I've dumped my Fazer many a time and always soon patched it up to get back on the road. Thankfully never battered it as much as that!

GWS and hope insurance dealings go smoothly though!

Respect to you and your giant testis. Thumbs Up

Hope both you and pillion heal fast.

That looks like a horror show and well done (whoever was riding) for not being dead

But seriously, are 'late night group rides' even a thing, and if so what kind of degenerate attends them?

Hopefully the rider has pillion cover coz that broken ankle could cost them a lot of money if the insurance get narky.

Doesn't matter if pillion cover is in force or not.

OP states that car pulled out on them, therefore driver is at fault and claim is against third party (driver) so it doesn't matter what the insurance say or think.

In fact at this stage, OP's own insurers do not even need to be informed unless he is planning to use insurance appointed solicitors which also he is not obliged to use.

Seems to be, I've seen more snapped forks in the 6 years I've been on here, than in the previous 30 years I've looked at crashed bikes

There's probably a logical reason for it, somebody else will no doubt explain.

To be fair, it'd be past mine too. Late night ride out in December? No thanks.

Still, shit crash to have. Made an impressive mess of the bike and the rider. Best wishes to rider, degenerate or otherwise. Thumbs Up

Assumption is the mother of all cool stories, bro.

Group ride at night, pillion candy[*] on the back, I wouldn't assume that OP was an exemplar of due care and attention. Paint diagram is needed to decide for sure.

It is an interesting question what happens to the pillion's compo if blame is assigned (e.g.) 50/50. Imagine having to deal with two underwriters at once. Pale

Oh, GWS to whomever was involved. Whistle

[*] I assumed gender, I ar Hitlar.
