Technically, any time from now until the heat death of the universe is "after" 4pm Thursday.

the lock still works and in the end it cost me £260 to get it open.
i'm not sure if any of the bits amount to much, but i will get a spare key made up and sell the safe.

Is that 3rd watch an Omega? Could be worth a few bob if it shines up. Edit: duhawkz get out of my head

1977 crowns are worthless; I've got several.

You might have some sovereigns or suchlike in there though. Quids in if so.

Edit: they look like half sovereigns. Hundreds not thousands, but you should at least break even on the safe opening.

I take it the lock was picked, given how long the keyway is that mustn't have been easy. Presumably 5 levers too, kudos to the criminal turned enterprising businessman who turned up, made a note of your valuables and existing door locks, took payment and left, never to return again Laughing Laughing Twisted Evil

What can I say! Smile

The sovereigns (even if half) should cover the cost of the safe being opened, unless you sell them to one of the 'we buy gold companies', but even then...

So you're other stuff is profit, the Omega may be worth a few £££ if it still works

the watch is an Omega, i will check if it works when i get home.
i will also take some better pictures of the gold coins.

the chap who did the work seemed totally on the level to me.
he spent a while trying to pic the lock but was unsuccessful.
in the end he took off the brass plate for the key hole and drilled a small hole next to the key hole and then used various tools to get the safe open.

when he unlocked it he only opened the door a couple of mm and then stepped away to let us open the safe so fair play to him.

he then dismantled the door and remove the lock.
it was 6 leavers with the first lever operating a bar, he also spoke of an anti lock device that drops down if you try to pick the lock.
he said it was hand made.

the lock was dismantled and cleaned of all the junk.
he then rebuilt the lock and tested with the spare key.

i think he did an excellent job

I'd be very pleased with that haul. Sounds like the safe guy was decent too. Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up for the intriguing thread and OP-actually-delivered factor.

Out of interest, did he say what the most expensive/unusual stuff he's unlocked on similar jobs was?

He did say a lot of safes are empty and its very common to find a spare key inside the safe.

he didn't mention any large hauls or such...

Between them they should cover the costs of getting the safe opened.

Here is a better picture of the watch.

as you can see is a bit grubby.
the strap is stamped 1/5th 9ct rolled gold.
so gold plated.

i have a chap at work who is into these sorts of things and will be letting him take a look.
