They'll continue to free fall. It's a Suzuki so they'll start doing 0% finance on new ones soon. MT10 is better if uglier. Tuono V4/SuperDuke are better if you want a head banger.
If you like it, get it, but don't kid yourself into thinking it'll hold it's value. ____________________ My Flickr |

|
It's too early to know how savagely the S1000 will depreciate, but... Suzuki.
It's selling all right at the moment (by Suzuki standards), so they're not in the fire sale just yet.
The ABS model is significantly more popular according to howmanyleft. I'd expect a fair number of non-ABS bikes to be pre-registered in the next few weeks to beat the Euro4bollocks deadline, so if cost is the overriding factor and you're not dead set on ABS, you may want to make a derisory offer on a non-ABS now, or wait until just after Xebusmass to see if they blink and start the BOGOF deals.
They're supposedly running a 3 year warranty offer up to December 31st 2016 but seem to have gone very quiet on it, and it requires Suzuki dealer servicing to qualify.
Whatever you do, you'll want to chisel every penny out of them. I genuinely lolled when I saw a nearly new GSX-1250F in a local independent dealer stickered at higher than the new Suzuki list price. He said he'd just valued it as a trade in just as Suzuki slashed their new prices (yet again) and now he was stuck with it. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

You bought the wrong bike if you are thinking about depreciation IMO. If not your one of them, who wants to try lots of things, different types of bikes, gets bored easily, or just wants to keep up with all the new models and latest things while they are new.
I know car people like this, and they argue that it's always best to have the best cars in their class while they are newish and most fashionable or in demand. They say it's best having say a new Golf GTI when it's new, have your fun with it and move on to the next thing, before it looses all its value or starts costing you money. I've heard people say I could only afford to own/run/lease XX car for a year, but what a year and then they go back to a cheap living within their means vehicle.
Others say let the fools own them and lose all the value in 10years, and then buy it cheap, fettle it back to great condition, and put a load of aftermarket parts on that are now widely available and better than the OEM parts in some way.
Apart from.the desire of people to be fashionable or popular I see no reason why having new latest models is better than an older model? If it's an economic decision and a question of reliability or just a simple tool for a job then fair enough.
But wanting to be the first bloke to have a new R1 etc, and only have intentions of keeping it a year or so in case a so called better bike comes out is silly. |

Mmm, maybe. The S1000R starts at £10,350, the MT-10 at £10,136.00, both with ABS as standard, so it's not a world away even if you're paying ca$h up front.
If you're renting on PCP, the Suzuki is likely to cost you more because of (on topic, even!) depreciation. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

And this, ultimately, is my main issue. I'd rather have an MT-10 but despite the significantly lower initial price (6.5k vs 9k for a low mileage used example of each) the depreciation and therefore cost of running would be greater on the Suzuki ____________________ Triumph Monkey 🐒 |

Heh, that's a good point. A new Yamaha appears: buy it quick before the price goes up. A new Suzuki appears: don't touch it until the price inevitably drops.
Small anecdote, not many hurt, but my local bay is turning into a bit of a Yamaha showroom. FZ6 S2, MT-07, Tracer 900 side by side yesterday. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
