Just a thought from last night. We were talking with some of our non-biker friends about a trip to one of the bike retailers in our area. To get to the retailer we generally hit the motorway for a short stretch, have a blast (fun Smile) and then cut back onto the A roads the rest of the way.

The thing is, it seems that it's normal for a biker to hit 100mph or above if they've got enough road, whereas my car driving friends wouldn't dream of it.

So how often, if at all, have you been over the instant ban limit? (Not including track days either, on the roads Smile)

I have done it many times.
Doesn't mean I do it now though.

When I first got a 'big bike' I tried to keep under the magic 100. However once I had done it a few times without killing anyone, you kinda decide that it might not be quite so bad.
I have known plenty of car drivers that aren't worried by going that fast either.

These days I would like to keep my licence in a semi-decent state as my insurance is pretty ridiculous as it is.

I tend to go over 100mph on most rides when conditions allow. But if I'm in the car I never get anywhere near (although it's capable of it). I'm not sure why that is, but the car engine feels happy just rolling along, whereas the bike doesn't feel right at lower speeds.

Alan is not a prude about speeding. He rides his own bike "well".

His problem with Bonny, I suspect, was the use of inappropriate speed for the conditions, and the lack of awareness by Bonny of how inappropriate it was.

It was said as joke, but;

There is a line to be drawn.

I do believe bonny crossed that line and said so repeatedly in the thread I believe.
However I also believe Alan crossed that line in his actions.
Maybe if he mentioned that he's done something a little bit 'dodgy' that he considers ok, but they don't, someone will decide to do the same to him.
Where do you stop?

On my own bike? Never, I don't think it can (and the H100 definitely couldn't)

Pillion on the other half's XS650, a couple of times. Didn't enjoy it much though.

In the car, once again most of my cars not capable so may have touched a couple of times but that's all.

As a car passenger, quite a few times depending who I'm driving with. White knuckles again.

Just call me Mrs Boring! LOL

I've only done it twice on the road. Its happened quite a few times on the track.
I dont see the point of doing it on the road, if i'm going someware i dont ride fast anyway, if i'm just rideing out its about enjoying what i see not blatting past it as fast as possible.

Like I'm going to admit to anything on this forum... Rolling Eyes have seen a lot of people threatening to "grass people up" for stuff on here, having written confession of excessive speeding these days on here is just silly Razz

I've never gone above 70 and only 20 in a 20, 30 in a 30, 40 in a 40, 50 in a 50, 60 in a 60, 70 on the motorway... that's all... Wink

I'm not worried about the pictures at all... as far as I know you need to prove that a) that's a public road and b) that it's me ... and as far as I know they have to catch you "in the act" for stunting, whereas for speeding I thought they could do you just for evidence of it? (i.e. a video?) may be wrong but Razz

Anyway, I just had to stop sharply for a baby hedgehog crossing the road and my mate thought it was funny so took a picture Wink Wink

I try not to exceed 100mph on a NSL road as it's asking for trouble. Most of the time I try to ride within the 3+10% or around that mark.

To be honest I recon that since I've had a fairly large bike I've actually slowed down. It's easy to do big speeds but I don't feel the need any more, I think age and experience played a part in that for me too. It's also easier to cruise and just use the torque, I do like to use the acceleration though, but that's not outlawed yet I don't think. Rolling Eyes

Hi

Err, someone I know very well normally keeps below 100 but does go over it for short bursts on a regular basis, both on 2 and 4 wheels.

All the best

I used to do it a lot on the R6 but hardly ever now on my Tuono (too much windblast).

Go to France at least if you get caught there you only have to pay a fine - no points.

Yeah, take it with a pinch of salt. Anyone who racks up over 12,000 (yes, that's twelve THOUSAND) posts in 20 months must by the law of averages post a fair amount of cobblers, if only because they are too busy posting messages to gain any new experiences to post about.

Besides, he's a fecking lawyer. It is his JOB to tell lies. Wink
