Good luck with that. Contributory negligence is the most they can hope for.

To see where we're likely heading, New York prohibits leccy bikes completely, and is forever cracking down on them, with little effect. I can see London going much the same way. With no plates, fast enough to ignore foot plod, and with a no-pursuit policy, being (literally) caught is essentially a non-concern.

That only applies to Dindu on someone else's moped, they'll go after cyclists. Apparently in Germany they have a scheme for more powerful ebikes, IIRC you can insure via a government scheme for a fairly low amount.
