Has anyone else had a couple of 'oh shit' moments seeing blue flashing reflecting off a signpost making you think there's a police car behind you only for you to realise it was just the reflection of someone's Christmas lights?

Yes! yesterday, I was coming home from work on a dark, rainy night and I pulled over as I saw some blue flashing lights in the distance. It turned out to be a bliddy builder's Ford Transit van with blue flashing tinsel weaved around his roof bars. I am sure he thought it was amusing and festive but everyone ahead of me in the traffic queue pulled up onto the verge. I thought it was really daft but then I hate Christmas decorations which are blue and flashing. Bah! Sad

No. but them I make sure that I'm either 1) riding legally or 2) going so fast they won't get my plate.

Or 3) Broken down at the side of the road unable to break the law

Pass some icicle type hanging lights on my way home from work and I feel a epileptic fit being triggered by them, nearly.
Do I have grounds for compensation if I do?

There is a maplins near me that has blue lights visible from the road. Failed to register ambulance was emerging from behind store (ambulance station is there) and gave myself and probably the ambulance driver jumping a red a bit of a scare. Noted several occasions of people slowing down or stopping to look at garishy lit houses, causing much road rage. I'm sure owners of said houses like the sound of car horns.

I would quite seriously call that one in on 101 if I caught his plate. Not for great justice, just because I picture him having a great laugh at all the tossers pulling over, ahahaha, tossers, and I'm a big believer in petty vengeance.

Because of the red shift?

Nah, because of the oil induced smoke-screen.
