Just curious I'm working out if there is anything else I need to get my k100 back on the road. Now considering it hasn't really been ridden in a year the brakes are working fine.

However I'm thinking of replacing them now at Brembo ceramic brake pads they work out at £20 a set. The k needs 3 sets so that is a total of £60.

Now I'm wondering does anyone know there is any noticeable difference between the Brembo and other makes, (just wondering if it's worth the extra cost) Question

Sintered front and organic rear is my option.

You'll be paying in-part for the Brembo name which is fair enough as they do produce good products, as do EBC which I prefer.

Ceramics produce less dust, on the MV they felt similar to the Brembo sintered but I haven't got science to back it up. Initial bite wasn't as pronounced as the sintered...I replaced with EBC (which some people don't like).

Organics on the rear as I prefer the 'feel' i.e Slightly less likely to lock up the rear using my big size 10s. Smile Would depend on how good rear master cylinder is or how much feel you get from the rear brake, and most say they either don't use the rear or are unsure of interpreting the feedback.

I have pondered about fitting a thumb brake.

I have heard from a few people that the Brembo pads are the best pads you can get for a K100. I've not tried them myself though, a bit expensive for my taste.

Are you running the original stainless discs or the cheap aftermarket cast ones? I have the cast ones, first with Ferodo Platinum pads which didn't really work and now with straight boring black EBC pads which are a bit better but seem to be wearing twice as fast. I'll be looking to try EBC's new semi-sintered V series next, copper filled pads sounds like just the ticket for these cast discs.

Hi

If you have cast iron disks be careful about the pads you use.

I tried some EBC HH pads in the Bimota (standard cast iron Brembo disks). They were marginally better in the dry, but frighteningly bad in the wet. Pull the lever and count to 5 slowly before they did anything. Disks and pads did not go together well.

All the best

Katy

I've had a Bianchi, 2 Ducatis, and 3 Laverdas all with Brembo brakes of various sorts, didn't find their pads any better than any others, I stick with EBC meself....take some beating.

They are the ones I've currently got on the bike at the moment so standard brembo steel. I don't mind paying out for them but I just want to make sure I'm not paying more for the name than braking power. Can't remember which are in at the moment, the brakes work fine enough as it is on the centre stand with the bike running.

But I don't want to be complacent when riding around, considering how long they have been on there. They were stuck together slightly but apart from that after being serviced work now. I'll be upgrading the front end in the future but I'm going have to sort out some form of transport for the meantime.

I've used ebc, ferodo and sbs pads before of which I found the EBC and Ferodo to be the most favourable of these.

I've tried quite a few different pads over the years. I think my thought process is more sintered of any make than non sintered rather than a certain brand.

Saying that.....

I've had Armstrongs on my Goldwing 1800 and really found them good for hauling a 600lb monster back from 3 figure speeds.

I had Bendix pads on my Busa (Tocico 6 pots) recommended by the busa forum. Good but bloody expensive.

Ones I wouldn't buy again? Goldfren & Kyoto.

I like them and have them fitted to my bike.

I used Brembo pads on my Speed Four, I found them noticeable better than the EBC before.

I agree with the above though, don't bother with them on the Rear.

I have Kyotos in the TRX and they are surprisingly ineffective. But that's good, because it has far more brakes than it needs. You'd be a fool to use them in an 8v K100 though! They also managed to give the 4 pot Brembo calipers serious wet weather lag..

I've heard good things about Goldfren though. Certainly they seemed to stop a K100LT with OE discs well enough, far better than my setup with the awful cast discs.
