 |

There's one particular roundabout on the A5 where it joins the M6 Toll that people ALWAYS get wrong...
You are riding along, you get into the correct lane early at a major roundabout either via filtering or simply being in the correct lane...
A car on your left catches your spidey-sense, driver looks unsure. Hes hugging the right side of his lane despite being in the left and straight on lane...
Half-way around the roundabout he figures out his mistake. His right indicator comes on...
Situation :
(A) Youve already purposely left a massive gap knowing what a dickhead he is and are happy flashing him to pull into it because your a nice guy and you know you will get past him in a min anyway - no brainer.
(B) Youve left a big gap - but hes left it much later than you planned and the gap has disappeared because of lights on the roundabout. Instead of just sticking with his decision and going up whatever road he is aiming at and coming back - he insists on cutting across.
Whats your response / actions (horn? Revs? Shouting? Giving him the space and risking the rear end from an impatient cager?)
Assuming no one would risk themselves by putting the bike into that gap to "block" him - but if thats your choice - reasons why?
Google maps for the worst offending roundabout Ive come across to date: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.6396291,-1.8032121,3a,75y,185.44h,85.09t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s7EQwT7_2MslBW1LprPRMvw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
Google maps for the hatched markings I escape into! (although these are now solid white lines - not broken):

You could cut him some slack because presumably, if it's something that happens regularly, there must be a problem with the clarity of the signeage/road markings.
Polite peep of horn to let him know you're there wouldn't be wrong. If you're to the right of and behind a car on a roundabout, you're in his blindspot and he's clearly already distracted. Eye contact in mirror, hand held out forwards, palm up in an "after you" gesture. Guy takes lane and waves thanks. You don't crash. Ronnie Pickering stays in his box. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

If you've decided to let him in, let him in. Don't change your mind, get fed up and make your move anyway because that might be the moment he does the same.
If as you say you know the road and it always happens - use your brain and act accordingly. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Yeah, I know whatI do..
Im interested in other peoples views.
Its not when theres a gap and its easy to do, in that situation (A) you obviously let the idiot across.
This particular roundabout has multiple lights, so assume after the gap has been left, you approach the red light... you wouldnt leave a massive gap then.
It doesnt happen all the time because if you get the timings right you filter to the front of the red light, but if the timing is wrong and you dont filter because you know its about to go green.... THEN his / her indicator comes on and starts to edge across - into the space you occupy.
Is it just a single beep / don't move (risking being hit from behind) / and wave them across?
I normally speed out of the way - but that brings its own dangers. |

as above, if you've left the gap, his delay in taking it may be trying to be sure he's not going to knock you off, he's trying to second guess your movement if you're letting him have the gap or are about to move through it.
being more blatant about giving him the gap is the way to go - flashing a bike's headlight I've found to be quite ambiguous as drivers are used to them appearing to flash as the bike goes over bumps in the road. ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

I've grown to enjoy sitting back and watching people be idiots, rather than be in amongst it. I find it much less stressful and I expect it will allow me to live a lot longer than the "Fuck you, I'm in the right!" school of driving would.
If I see him having fucked up, I'll make sure it's safe and let him in. I'd rather that than have him force his way in when I'm adjacent to his car, or he's too busy looking in the mirrors whilst merging over that he doesn't see me.
I know I'm the forum 'does-180mph-to-work' guy, but you gotta pick your battles. ____________________ Biking history so far-

I do enjoy watching it unfold
Sometimes you can see it happening even before the junction arrives. This particular roundabout, cars travel past huge white arrows on the floor 100 yards before, and there are massive signs before that.
Yet cars still pootle on to the roundabout heading for the A5 in the M6 Toll only lane.
Causing much hilarity.
Thanks for your inputs! |

Hi
I know that roundabout, I use relatively often, it isn't the best of roundabouts, fortunately I haven't encountered too many problems on it, but, bit like you, I know what to expect and what to look out for ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

Life too short , and I generally think a bikers might be if he (she) gets worked up about dick heads, give them space to dick about . They gets pissed off anyway when you disappear in the distance and they are stuck in a queue |
