Right gents need serious advice think I have a major problem with the x8 (piaggio 125)

Just got back from attempting to sort my scooter , got to work on it fine yesterday , went to go home and scooter would not start, only starter motor engaging, no compression ,no spark (engine not been cranked due to outer pulley)

Well I'm back to square one,
Pulled the brand new variator pulley out which is days old, totally shredded again in the middle along with a brand new washer(outer) which is days old too.

This happened last week the Exact same reason before, what am i doing wrong am i torquing too hard (impact wrench)
But previous seller didn't have said wrench, and had exact same problem.
Splines still look good .
Pulling my hair out.

Looks like I'm going to have to buy another pulley and washer.

I have seen this before. Albeit on a Taiwan scoot but the back part of the front variator may not be seated properly when installed. The symptom of getting one ride out of it then a no start being the common theme.

Usually I meet this immediately after a shade tree guy has removed the restrictor.

In my own piaggio scoot, it needs something in there otherwise the pulley would get stuck "thrown out". I used a copper washer. 40mph top speed and no pulley jamming.

Are you tightening the variator pulley nut with an impact wrench? Impact wrenches are for undoing, not tightening.

Hold the variator in place with a variator locking tool and tighten it with a torque wrench. With the starter teeth on your variator you could use a locking tool that grips the teeth, or you could remove the ring and use one that slots into the bolt holes.
