Always a drama.

Our guy here was triaged by the air ambulance doctor/paramedic, who decided a copter trip was not required so they took him by ambulance under blues & twos to Medway. There he was x-rayed, then CT scanned and found to have a C2 compression fracture, given a bed and morphine. He was let out Christmas eve with a return appointment in the new year and he's now at home with a back brace fitted.

You say you have three fractures - how come your story is so different?

How come I was given no pain relief between 10:30pm and around 7 am this morning despite pushing the call button twice... because this hospital is shit!!

They don't back brace everyone.. why they haven't fitted one just to be safe I don't know... though instead of saying it's warped elaborate on what you think is actually happening?

Gotta be a reason after a week I'm still in this bed being dosed up on morphine and codeine

I completely agree that it's a malfunctioning system that makes serious mistakes routinely and is guilty of unreasonable and unaccountable delays and omissions. Competence is often lacking in the NHS.

However, even though they're covering their back as much as yours, in this case I'd just be cool and do as they say. If you aren't moving, you aren't making it worse. If they aren't doing anything, they aren't making it worse. You aren't a prisoner and could walk out if that's your intention, but it would be against advice, and if you end up permanently in a wheelchair after getting up when the nurse told you to sit still, it would be your fault.

Just guessing, but I imagine that their consultant at Kings is probably a pompous overrated time-server who's swamped with reports and is at his villa in Tuscany or the one in Cote d'Azur for the next week or so, and is probably a bit drunk and forgetful at the best of times, never mind when he's out of his wits around Christmas and New Years. You're basically a file on his desk. You'll probably have a clearer picture of where this is going when things are back to normal - 2nd week of January.

I will go easy in the pain relief department, it is not ideal but if you are in for a prolonged amount of time, plus recovery time at home afterwards, there is some potential for nasty side effects.

Still in hospital ... kicked up a fuss about why it was taking so long... turns out the hospital here had forgot to send off my ct scan to Kings and had only done it yesterday... fuck sake!
