Its an aprillia AF1, basically a really old RS50, they are slow as hell though apparently, a mate got one of those free and had an RS50, and the RS50 was so much faster it was just stupid. I think they were made in the late 80s but not sure. The 125 version seems much more common, although i seriously doubt you would see one riding about.

cant seem to find any specs, must be really old! The whole thing actually looks like its made out of plastic!

Hi

That is the old AF1 50. From the paint scheme that is probably one for the 1989 model year (same scheme as the 1989 AF1 125 Sintesi).

As a bike they are basically the same as the RS50 up until a few years ago. Frame is the same, as are loads of other bits. Engine wise I am not sure as they used various engines depending on what was on the menu in the canteen that day. Some had 3 speed gearboxes. Some were also built in Spain and badged as Derbis.

At the end of the day it should be about the same performance as an RS50, and about the same handling.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Enjoy it. Indicators are easy as they are used by loads of Italian bikes (mainly 1990s Ducatis). Mirrors will be more of a problem as they are no longer available (assuming they are the same as the Aprilia Sintesi 125), but there are some pattern ones that are very similar (think they are for some model of CBR600).

There is also another version badged Futura sold betwen the Sintesi version you have and the RS125.

When new Aprilia in the UK also sold them as an "80" with a big bore kit fitted.

All the best

Keith

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it?

As for parts, I think some universal fit indicators from ebay or even those motrax you'll find at local dealerships should fit.

Might also want to invest in some wing mirrors. Wink

i paid £200 for it
plus £60 delivery,

but it needs new fork oil seals (as did my kawasaki)
kickstart needs attention
and
the clutch is slipping (dad said we can sort that easy enough) ... i hope he is right

the bike has no test or tax

yeh i know it needs mirrors hehe

i was thinking maybe getting some rs50 ones or something they are on ebay for like £10

also i like the look of these
https://i13.ebayimg.com/01/i/01/e6/35/ad_1_b.JPG

or are they a little too billy bolt on stick on max power tat

what mirrors could i get that are inkeeping with the 80/90s styling of the bike, im VERY handy with a pot of filler so ... thats no problem

Hi

Fairly cheap.

Fork seals should be easy enough. Not sure about the kick start.

Clutch plates are easy to do and if it is a similar Minarelli engine to the RS50 (fairly sure it is, just fitted with a 3 speed gearbox) then replace the nylon gear that drives the rev counter at the same time (they are cheap, wear out often and you need to remove the clutch to fit them).

RS50 mirrors are very different. The ones on the AF1 go out horizontally while the RS50 ones go up vertically before going out.

Personally I think most aftermarket mini indicators look rubbish.

Noticed that you also need a new footrest. That should be the same as an RS125 one.

All the best

Keith

well the owner says that it will kick fine, but it will not return back up, you have to do it manually (spring probably)

what can i do about indicators
find some from an rs50 i guess

im worried about the 3 speed box though, my ar50 had more then that :o

do you know nay good places for aprilia parts??

I CANT WAIT

Ebay and scrap yards. You're better buying spurious though.

Non genuine parts - eg if you need an ignition switch don't buy the official Aprilia one, buy a "fake" part which will work as well just be a fraction of the cost.

Hi

You are probably going to have to go to Speedaway to be honest. They do keep a fair selection of parts.

All the best

When i had my 95 RS50 Chesterfield, something was going wrong with it nearly every week, always used speedaway though, excellent service and they have most parts on the shelf, where as aprilia dealerships basically told me to f*ck off, probably because the bike was an import, and its quiter rare compared to the new RS50's.

Hi

They are in Blackheath, just to the west of Birmingham.

Here is what the original mirrors look like:-

https://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/TempPicture/Img_2707.jpg

Here are the ones I have fitted (think they are from a CBR600, available as pattern items and not that expensive)

https://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/TempPicture/Img_2708.jpg

Here are the standard indicators.

All pics from an AF1 Sintesi 125.

All the best
