BCF,

I need your help, I need to buy a mountain bike for a 13 year old boy - just general use, nothing too taxing, light off road.

I know nothing about bikes, am wary of Halfords and only have a budget of £300 max, preferably £250.

It's his first proper bike so may end up rusting away at the back of the shed unused so nothing too expensive for now.

Help me BCF, you're my only hope.

How big a 13 years old? We talking an adult size bike here? They going to handle a 27.5" wheel?

You could try Decathalons B-twin range if you want new. Just remember at £250-300 you're getting something built down to a budget. They're knocking out aluminium framed, hardtail 27.5"ers with SRAM gearsets for your budget.

Consider second hand for a better bike for the same money.

www.cyclechatforums.com Wink

For £250 I'd go second hand for something that's not full suspension.

As Stinky said, we need some idea of what size you're after. If it's too big for him then that'll mean the bike ie more likely to end up rusting away in the back of the shed.
