You seemed to miss the bit about my exup being 28" wide. I commute through bristol on it every day and have never had an isse with it's width.

No doubt the streets of Brizzle are extraordinarily commodious however the ones I'm on regularly suffer from traffic in adjacent lanes being packed tight and stationary. It's not uncommon to see cyclists making much better progress through some sections, although not on MTBs, obvs.

I'd look for a different route.

There's some sense in that. The worst roads are those which have been converted from one generous to two very meagre lanes, or reassigned to cycle SUPERhighways. They are often major routes, however each of these scenarios leaves no space for the unofficial bike lane.

While I think completely unessasary to change the bike and I do enjoy filtering on the CBR6, this might help OP

As they are adjustable, set the width as you want, and angle them inwards slightly. No idea what size forks on a cg. I have got 43mm ones waiting to be fit on the cbr6.
