Step away from the telephone, do not phone insurance, even to enquire your options.
Repeat..
Step away from the telephone, do not phone insurance, even to enquire your options.
Until you have read the replies here and taken advice from all, no claim no insurance involvement needed.
Details on you and bike would help, licence type, how long for, bike plus age..
Cbf, mate if you are on a cbt n 125 you will only claim of your insurance and the increase in your next quote will see you riding around on a 50cc until you are 25! Unless you are over 25 then it might be worth it if you've written it off.
Take it to a decent garage and make sure there is no major defects and get a quote for work.. Or post in workshop and buy a big hammer!
Glad you are ok though, nasty roads at the mo ____________________ ybr125 Sold, GSF600 K1 Bandit (For Sale), FJR13000 gen2. |

I'm 37 (last week), on a CBT with a CBF125.
I did use the front brake when I reapplied rear brake. The conditions were slightly wet but not raining.
I've not called anyone yet, I don't know what to do / where to start.
I will hang fire - I have a CBF125 so pretty isnt an issue, rust is
Gutted though. ____________________ thx1138 wrote: Well if you had a car, I'd bet it would smell like urine had had drunken sex with vomit and made a poo baby.

Bars are universal and cheap, so that's not a biggie. Unless you know differently, I'd assume that your bars are 7/8" / 21/22mm. eBay can provide, there's no need to spend more than the minimum necessary - they're just metal tubes. Worst case, you may have to drill a hole for a locating screw on the controls. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

First, sorry you've stacked it, but your actions were probably the cause. CBFcarl wrote: | Funnily enough, I was talking to the Mrs about doing DAS last night, and she wasn't crazy about it - she doesn't like me being on the bike anyway and has been trying to get me to sell it for the last year, and get a car instead. |
That's probably your lot now then after this then. But food for thought, if you had done DAS you might have known
how to brake properly and perhaps been on a heavier bike. Both would have helped here.
Not digging you out mate but if it was damp rear brake isn't a good idea in these conditions unless you actually want
to skid. Using front brake increases traction/grip front wheel because weight shifts forward when braking with either brake,
during braking one presses harder against the tarmac and one presses less hard. I'm sure you've learned that now.
Don't let the Mrs shut you down, blame Donald Trump or something, that's what everybody else does.
Have some for being honest and taking advice though ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Sometimes naw scrub that most of the time it only takes a second, I nearly ran into the back of a 4x4 last week on the commute, to mitigate myself, it was on a roundabout, she did pullout and then got caught up in stopped traffic, so I had braking distance before she jumped into the gap and in all fairness I am a bit of a cunt... But if the left lane wasn't clear I'd have had no where to go. And yeah I defo should have seen the line of traffic stopping anything that may pull on to the roundabout before me..
Do the DAS, call it a advanced riding course, bigger bikes are safer, really.. Btw what tyres you running, when I first changed my 125 tyres to a decent set of pr3's it was a totally different ride. .
But I got to say, take it on the chin, reflecting on ur ride and being able to self criticise it key to staying upright to me anyway..

Not a thread I ever wanted to post on to be honest...
No 4. The VFR versus Storm Doris
I knew the storm was coming, but when I got up and looked out the window yesterday morning, all the roads around my way were clear, so I hopped on the bike just after 7:30 as usual to get on my 17 mile commute to work. Across the central belt of Scotland, specifically the M8 motorway. I was on the motorway less than 100 yards, barely even off the slip road, when I hit the snow. Managed over a mile in first gear, up the middle of the traffic, before I could move into a lane when a gap opened up.
Thankfully that gap was long, as the snow flattened beneath the tyres of previous cars and trucks had basically turned to ice. Only slightly accelerated, but it was enough to get the back end twitching from side to side, and eventually it went down on its right hand side. Was only going 10mph or so at the time, still first gear, so didn't slide for long. It did land on my ankle tho, and I couldn't lift the bike myself. Thankfully, seeing as all the traffic was going slowly, the guys around me just stopped and some of them picked it up and got it over to the hard shoulder. Cue a call to the AA to get me home - this in itself took ages, trying to maneuver a motorcycle up a ramp in the snow - and a wee visit to the docs to see the nurse, who immediately sent me to A&E for an X-ray. Thankfully nothing broken, just swollen tae fuck and sore as hell, will be fine after the weekend.
Checked the bike out briefly yesterday, and again today. Indicator is fecked - new set already ordered yesterday - there's some scraping on the engine casing and the rear pegs, brake pedal is bent a little (well it was, managed to straighten it out already) and the fairing is likely fecked as the crash bung has pushed right into it. The hole there was already large and had been broken previously, so the bung bolt was just stopping the fairing from flapping about, the impact seems to have pushed whatever bracket behind it inward as well.

Everything's still running fine, had to throttle it onto the bracket for the AA man, and up the drive when we got home. Will need to bodge the indicator for a bit til the new ones arrive, and will check the fairing over the weekend. Worked from home today and going to relax for the rest of the afternoon before the kids come in from school. ____________________ 2001 Honda VFR800fi |

Number 5, sv1000s, owned for 10 days, aside riding it home, I took it to work today for its maiden voyage. The trip home ended in a whack 2 miles from home.
I am the red line, I have just come off of the motorway, I am on the roundabout, in the right hand lane, turning right, as I approached the exit, I am indicating left to leave the round about and carry on in the right hand lane.
The guy in blue comes from my left and takes out my exhaust with the front of his Renault Megane. he thinks I cut him up, I was taking the lane for my exit.
He hit my exhaust with his front drivers corner, causing me to lose control and hit the curb and chuck it down into the grass verge, narrowly missing a sign post (would have hurt).

I wasn't going quickly, on this roundabout it has had some road work recently which has left a ramp/dip, one before and after the road repair, large enough to make your suspension take a thud both up it and going down it, so I had just slowed down for that and started to turn left immediately afterwards.
I have a witness thankfully, who was taking the same route as me and confirms what happened, he has given me his details and I have forwarded all the information to my insurance company. So in that respect I should be ok.
Police and ambulance in attendance, I got away with a bruised calf, a bruised hip and general aches. Also got breathalised for the first time!
The bike has cosmetic damage only from what I can see, cracked fairing mounts and damaged paintwork on the front cowl, bent fairing mounts and scratches on the side fairing, scratches to the rear fairing, scratches, a dent to the exhaust can and a broken indicator. Could have been a lot worse. I will check for damage properly tomorrow.

TL:DR; I got hit in the arse and chucked it into a kerb and down on some grass, painful leg/aches and cosmetic damage.
Update: 13/06/17
Received a cheque from the 3rd party, non fault. Sorted

You crossed his lane to take your exit. Why weren't you already in the correct lane? ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
