hello everyone.
I bought a Tiger 800 and it came from the previous owner with the original triumph heated grips installed... but they didn't work.
So today I decided to look into it. the fuse has been replaced, it was fine but I replaced it anyway.
The relay also was replaced but nothing. They still don't work.
No light on the button and no sign of life.
Any ideas why? thank you.
Also while I'm at it, could someone tell me what is this? I found it attached to the battery. Looks like some sort of a charger...

Those pics show an easy hookup to a trickle charger.

Tested the grips by hooking them directly to a power source?

thank you. no I haven't, I'm not sure how to do that. I suppose there must be a way to attached them straight to the battery? I'll have to google it.

Do you have a multi-meter? If not it will make any diagnosis difficult. Where are you should be a pretty easy job. Maybe a local BCF'r will help you out.

Do they heat up at all?
Do you get a green and red light setting?

So either your gloves are too thick or the switch is faulty.
You could check the wiring near left radiator, if not it's likely to be the switch - Take it off and give it some WD.

switches do go, they're available separately

find the part number of the grips on the triumph website accessories pages

type it into triumphinstructions.com for the fitting instructions, at least that'll show you how to remove the correct panels and what connectors to test

best try them on red first, as they'll warm up quicker and you'll get a quicker result if you find the fault

I have made a couple of repairs on heated grip systems. Most of them on Honda bikes, but this check may apply to yours!

If the grips use a two wire harness leaving each left and right grip you can check resistance through each grip to make sure the grip's winding hasn't broken.

Simply unplug that grips harness and back test the "grip-side" harness. Your looking for any kind of Ohm's reading. Test both to see if they are either giving the same reading or different readings.

If one gives you no reading and the other does than that may be the problem child. Some heated systems require the entire system to be working properly to function at all.

Example being: On the GL1800 wing that is equipped with heated seats and grips, If the seat goes bad, the grips won't work either. Doesn't mean the grips are bad, you just need to find the failed part.

Hope this helps!
