Has anyone else seen in the news the proposal to build 3500 new homes in an out of town modern village at this site?
I guess the land owners have sold or agreed to sell the site to Gala homes, and it unfortunately means closure of the drag racing strip, the large Sunday market site, and the airfield that's used by both light aircraft and gliders.
There are events pencilled in on the website for the rest of 2017, so I'm guessing nothing will happen until next year hopefully, but to me it's going to be a sad loss of one of the UKs handful of drag racing facilities, and not only is that bad enough, but it has IMO always been a friendly site with a good atmosphere, and has always offered plenty of rwyb and test and tune days, compared to sites like Santa Pod.
I've never ridden this strip myself on a bike, but I've always heard people say that for some reason they often get faster times at this track than at Santa Pod, though I have no idea what makes it a quick track?
I guess the bulldog bash will have to relocate to another track somewhere else in the UK, so I hope there's no opposition to that happening in this age of not in my back yard, hate on motorsports by the gen pop.
3500 new homes being built might keep me pretty busy work wise, but I'd rather keep my favourite track and have the issue of the green belt housing crisis happen somewhere else tbh.
How many 1/4mile race tracks are left in the UK now? Without Shakespeare county, I can think of about four across the UK.
Sad times! |
