Im interested in the Pix4d but not the price of the software. Crying or Very sad I have recently upgraded my drone but the weather up here is not great and have my ground training at the end of the month.

Pix4d is a fab, but expensive, piece of software. We use 'Drone Deploy' software to get the route and the camera snaps away. Then use photogrammetry with Pix 4d to create the 3d images

Where are you doing your training and PFAW Stevie? We had to put a lot of effort into the Ops manual to get it passed. Embarassed

What kind of drone and camera have you got?

Weather is not great for flying that's for sure.

Ive went for the Inspire 2 x4s as could not justify the x5s. I am a product photographer by trade but where i live i do a lot of property photography and looking at it as another service to provide. I haeard lots about ops manual so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ive went for a company in Glasgow due to the location as im up north in Ullapool. Doing a lot of reading this month as a fair bit more involved that i first thought.

In these conditions (ie good light) a phone camera is as good as any, if you didn't say I'm sure a lot of folk wouldn't have known.

See smartphones can be the best camera as you always have it in your pocket. The only issue is what you want to do with it after you have taken the photo.

Would you recommend transferring to PC for fiddling with pics or do you know of any decent phone software which gets a reasonable result?

Very Happy

I may be wrong but your snap appears to be on a bit of reasonably well-trodden path. My friend and I took a slightly unconventional route and trudged up that frozen bit of hill where the dysfunctional ski lifts go, to get to a higher viewpoint.

We also saw a group of fully geared up hikers have to instantaneously terminate their trip because one of them slipped while standing still on a frozen surface, went down like an absolute plank and broke her nose on the spot. Massive pool of blood on the floor, no doubt frozen there for the next few months.

Lightroom has a free mobile app that's fairly decent.

Lightroom tends to be the most common. What I was meaning is I take lots of photos of my kids with the smartphone because it's convienent but when it comes to editing / printing and end result the DSLR in RAW uncompressed format is far superior.

Our website is first draft and definitely a work in progress. The photos are too large for the website etc etc

Please feel free to advise and critically rip to shreds the photography.....as long as you have some advice hehe

3D modelling using pix 4D is interesting. As is thermal camera inspection and it's uses.

Multi-spectral cameras for crop management is also another potential target area.

Boys with toys really! Laughing

Boys toys indeed! Currently using Flir camera on an X6 with A3 and lightbridge 2 ITelite DBS extender for chasing off shore mamals upto 4Km away (its ok its our airspace for the time!) not loving DJI's slow development for the A3 given it cost a grand !! pix 4d I've only used the free version but had some great results with a p3p and I1 ......and still rocking a P2 with h33d for any recon work lol

I had my first studio shot during the week. It started as a visit to a friends to check out his home studio, ended with this:

Snapseed is a good free phone editing app. Crop/ exposure/ colour and saturation with a good few options that work well for the basics like heal and spot removal. Pip is a free fun app for some arty results like picture in picture stuff.

Some fairly recent pics of mine, taken from FB so you will see compression and banding. Taken in 2016 but could not post until now.

Family Portrait

Crofter for magzine article - Had to jump on the back of the quad to get over a very boggy bit of ground, nearly rolled off the quad lol. Not so used to live stock and they are pretty fecking big when they start running around.

High School Ball - Extremely quick turnaround on these photos no time to proper setup but came out pretty good, boy left of girl could have turned a bit more. Two strip lights at the back of this to create a rim light around to try and bring them out from the background and two larger softboxes to lighten the front, simply lighting. One thing i would point out is the two guys on each end were beyond the black curtain background and lights were pretty much touching their back, such limited space.

Chromakey Setup

Not 100% perfect background for the customer but was better than going up the hill in the pissing rain to get the shot.

I was going to say you could try putting the aperture to a high number (f22) and getting stars from the lights, then I saw it was with a phantom 3, maybe not.

Could anything have been done about this? Genuinely curious, as it's a dilemma I face a lot, especially considering I don't use any 'professiona'l kit/techniques, and so am pretty limited in what I can achieve..
