I would like to take my kids out on the motorcycle this year. However like all kids they are growing fast (7 and 9) so am unsure of what to get. Also at the moment the whole thing is very experimental so am not sure how they will take to it.

Other than ebay or gumtree, anywhere else I should be looking for clothing.

How did you all manage to deal with it (helmet I will buy new)

cheers

Kitted my daughter out in bunch of old Hein Gericke kids gear off ebay. Reasonable amount about (or there was). Was picking up trousers and jackets for around £10-30 odd, ended up getting several sizes as it was no bank killer at those prices. Figured by younger son would use the gear too. The HG stuff also has zips in arms and legs to extend/shorten the gear too. Also has the same zip in thermal liners as the adult gear, so great on colder days too. Daughter did find arms a bit tight though (even on biggest sizes), lots of hassle getting gloves under or over sleeves.

For boots, went for some RST MX boots, which were decent and have lasted well enough, except for insoles which rucked up and came out. These are about £50, or around £20-30 on ebay. Though daughter just outgrew them, and now has some super tiny Alpinestars ladies SMX's which I bagged for £35 off ebay. She's now chuffed to have boots like mine.

Gloves were the tricky ones, most are pretty basic motocross style ones, too cold and with little abrasive protection. Very few decent kids leather gloves better suited for road about, with most small ones having huge long fingers.

Key thing is, most kids gear is rarely worn out, rather grown out of, and you will only use it for a few years, so definitely go second hand, just little point paying brand new prices.

Here she is in all her gear:

(OT) Arfa, i want to take my daughter out but fear her falling off. You don't seem to have a rear luggage to lean on. How do you get peace of mind she's still behind you?

Sam, clearing out some stuff at the moment and have got some love handles, belt with handgrips, so the little ones can hold on. Yours if you want it. Let me know.
Cheers!

+1 on getting kids stuff second-hand on eBay. All of it was so cheap I ended up just giving it away to other bikers with kids.

+1 on a box or something on a rack too, when they're little.

*NB. Don't get a bike with stereo - I didn't like Hannah Montana.
