A bike I had lent out, had an attempted theft. Details are sketchy but the steering lock has been busted. Are these fixable? I'm sure I'll get lots of people saying don't bother but I have some weird thing OCD esq thing where I can't abide broken functionality (don't ask ). The bike is coming back to me tomorrow and will be recommissioned for my missus will use it for a time.
The bike is an RXS100. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

yes, basically it's held in on the steering stem by a rivet, you'll need to carefully drill the retaining rivet out of the stem and buy a new steering lock, they're a very common item on Yamaha's but don't come as a kit, there's about 7 pieces to it, lock, rivet washer, cover etc
you may have to drill the lock out or rig up some sort of puller to remove it, depending on how it's been broken
and the bit you have to drill out, when you reassemble it that's where you have to hammer a new rivet in, so be really careful with the drill or you'll remove too much metal and you'll never get another in ____________________ Some people feel the rain, others just get wet. |

Looks like the lock is OK it operates fine but what it secures against is bent.
Nothing has snapped so I guess I can bend it back and hope it doesn't snap!

This is what it should look like.
As for bending it back, do you think a gas torch and pair of pliers will do? ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
