Hello

Sorry if this is more suited to the 'General' forum, but I chose this one as it's quasi-technical.

I am about to buy my third 05/06 Kawasaki 636 (first one was stolen, and second written off in SMIDSY).

I've found one that has all the specs and colour scheme I love, but it has 26,000 miles on the clock. The price is also cheap to reflect this.

My last two 636s had mileages of: 19,000 , and 11,000 and performed superbly.

Would this [potentially] third bike with 26,000 miles (has full service history) be any dimmer in performance/power in relation to my previous 636s; and would it likely throw me into all sorts of repair costs?

Very grateful for your helpful responses!

Thank you.

If the service history is genuine and it's in good condition, it'll be fine.

Not totally related but my ZZR600 is at 59k (I've done 32k of them) and it's not blown up yet.

As with any bike it depends on how well it`s owner looked after it.
Full service history will give some indication that it`s been looked after.

26000 miles at full throttle and always screaming to the red line = possibly shagged?

26000 miles of mixed riding and some sensible care = good bike?

That is nothing in my opinion if its been looked after.

But, to be fair my Varadero 125 was ragged, every single day for a few 10's of thousands of miles and was still running ok at 77,000 miles.

26k, full service history... the last service was a major service including valve clearances a couple of thousand miles ago?

If it's been well treated then 26k is nothing.

Judge the bike on the mechanical condition that it's in rather than by what the clocks say. It's been a couple of thousand miles since the last service and you've no idea what's happened to it in that time. That couple of thousand miles is more than enough time for a bike to go from being perfect to being a shed that's going to need some expensive work doing soon.

You should get a CBR if you're hung up on mileage.

Judging by your bike history in your signature, it's probably not going to be around for that long Whistle Laughing

Why do people assume anything over 20K is 'high mileage' when it comes to bikes? I do that a year commuting alone.

I've done 1500 this year. My bike has 5k on it. I don't want or need to ride all year, thats what diesels were made for Very Happy
