I had my bike stolen a few months ago by some bastard who broke the steering lock and hotwired it. Luckily I have recovered it thanks to a tracker that I had installed. I have soldered the wires back to ignition switch but they keep coming off. I have tried to do everything right, to put solder into the wire first, to remove all old solder but it worked fine for a few months and came off again while driving.
Im thinking off connecting the wires to a relay that would need a battery connected to it so that I could easily remove the part with battery when im leaving the bike instead of using a key. Then I could hide ignition wires under the tank so that noone could hotwire it again. Anyone heard about something like that or I would have to build it on my own?
Another option is an alarm with remote start, I have installed an alarm that has remote start option but I cant make it work. The instruction just say to connect one wire from the alarm to a "starting wire". Do you have an idea what exactly it means?

Couple of things that you might be doing wrong: too much solder or not enough strain relief on the wires.

If you tin the wires too much you cause a hard spot and if there's any movement or strain on the loom the wire will break not where it's soldered but where the tinning ends in the wire. You could try tinning the wire then cutting it back so only the end is tinned enough to solder to the terminals.

Many ignition switches have a metal tag on them that is there to support the loom and remove strain from the solder joints. If yours doesn't have this then perhaps you could cable tie the loom to something rigid just below the switch. This should take care of the problems you are having.

You should wire your bike so when you activate a particular, hard to turn switch either no-one knows about or no-one can activate without a specific key, it should allow the engine to make a spark and the starter to work..

You could call it an ignition key.

Otherwise yuo could wire in a 6 terminal flick switch that turns the bike on or off when you flick it and rely on on-one wanting to steal it.

I remember many years ago - a mate installed a starter button on his boy racer corsa.

Removed the reliance on keys altogether and had a particular spot on the bodywork with a micro-switch behind to press to unlock the car.

not sure how that would stand up when asked about it by the insurance company though!

I'll stick with a key I think.

After mine was pinched, I debated putting RFID on it. But I'm not keeping it, so CBA.

^^ This.
What tracker, how installed, how traced. Much intrigue.

Thanks for the opinions

The tracker I bought off ebay for £15 put a £10 on a SIM card so it was definitely worth too have my bike recovered and seeing the bastard handcuffed. It was some drugger, from a cheap flat, he kept the bike in his kitchen. Worse thing they had to release him next day and they couldnt accuse anyone for stealing the bike only for storing it.
