Please help.
Whilst riding motorcycle the kickstart starts activating, up and down. Very dangerous. Fortune was with me as was going slow at the time. Please explain what is wrong and is there a simple fix. Been too many years since I tinkered with a motorcycle gearbox, so for the life of me I can remember very little. |

We didn't have to look at the kick start so this is the most relevant pic I have.
The RH side pic is where we cleaned out the oil strainer.
The kickstart gears and ratchet etc are behind the case casting so
you'd probably need to split case to replace anything.
You could try removing the oil strainer, clutch basket and gear selectors to get enough access to fiddle with it but I doubt you'd be able to remove/replace anything doing this.
If that's all too much arseache,
just strap it up and keep the electric start healthy.
We never had any issue with the lads ES as I recall and again as I recall, the kickstart was a bit wanky to use anyway.
IIRC It seemed to have to travel a lot to do anything useful

Well that looks like a very similar bottom end to my XL.
I can confirm, if it is indeed the return spring you will have to split the cases to replace it!
If you want to check it, before doing the full strip down, drain the oil then remove the clutch case, if you can move the end of the return spring easily, it's snapped, it can't fall out on its own!
It will have snapped at the other end where it's held in place!
I know this because it had snapped on one of the spare engines I was rebuilding. ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Thanks guys. Very helpful.
I remember taking apart the case of a G.P 100 and never did get it working again, so I doubt I will be going down the road of splitting the case as I remember all the hours involved, including reading the Haynes manual. So will most likely strap the kick start in the up position as WD Forte suggested.
Now if the spring has snapped is there any chance of it ending up in the gears Last thing I want is to go flying.
I'm thinking of changing the gearbox oil. Been having gear change issue's for some time. Seen a few customer review on this model motorcycle and seems there may be gear issues but hard to tell with customer reviews as some state great and reliable whilst others unreliable and gear box problems. So I don't know what to think. What are your thoughts |

There are two common engines used in Chinese 125cc bikes: copies of the Suzuki GN/GS125 overhead cam engine; and copies of the Honda CG125 overhead valve pushrod engine. Other engines (or weird mutants like water cooled variants) exist but are far less common.
It looks like yours is the CG125 copy. This means that pretty much anything that applies to the CG125 engine should apply to yours. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Thanks.
Does that mean the Suzuki and Honda parts will fit the Kymco as I can't find many suppliers selling parts for the Kymco Pulsar. |

Just remembered the fifty quid bike thread which may have some useful info
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=301946
I stand to be corrupted but AFAIK the Pulsar S has the same OHC engine
as the lads Pulsar LX the only difference is the S has a more 'classic' round headlight and seperate clocks
I also remember:
the exhausts rot like buggery and can often rattle as the inners detach, I migged ours up
Front brake crap, rear brake good
I swapped the vac fuel top for a manual type from my CX spares box
and dumped the vac operated exhaust gizmo system ____________________ bikers smell of wee |

Thanks,
All useful advice and links. I have downloaded the user manual now so when I find the time will do the service and maybe check for any bits of spring floating about. If I get hold of a camera will send a pic of the engine to find out if it is a CG 125 copy.

How long is a piece of string?
On mine the spring had snapped at the inner end, where it's held in place within the mechanism. It was actually quite difficult to remove the broken bit, even with the engine in bits.
OP, you haven't said whether or not the kickstart works at all.
Admittedly the engine I'm referring to wasn't fitted to a bike when I got it, the return spring was snapped, I could turn the engine over with the kickstart, by hand, but it wouldn't return properly and, sometimes it would lock up, a bit of wiggling and I could manually return the kickstart!
As I said in a previous post, if you remove the clutch case, you should be able to tell immediately if the spring is at fault! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |
