Failed MOD 1 can anyone recommend a decent training centre?

Can anyone recommend a decent training centre in N London or Chelmsford area. One I recently used was pretty poor - conflicting advice and techniques from different trainers, (had 3 different ones on the 5 day course I booked) poor training facility for mod 1 (should have asked to see before booking the course). Is there a directory or something out there that ranks their performance - is it possible to get independent data on a test centers/trainers pass rates? Having just failed my MOD 1 I really want to be sure that any more training I take up is with a top notch organisation. Thanks in advance.

Arse you sure you didn't fail because you require further training? Not everyone can get it in 5 days.

What exactly did you fail on?

There is no need to change schools now, you know what is involved in mod 1 so no reason not to give it another go. You can always ask to stick to just one instructor. I cannot vouch for other schools but with ours it would not matter if you had different instructors, we were all taught by the same chief instructor to the point where we can easily pick up and carry on where another leaves off should the need arise. I'm sure most schools do work well together and are able to at least be on the same page.

Bud I would not change school at this late a stage, Ask for an extra couple of hours training with one instructor but I am sure they are all doing their job correctly and there is something you are lacking yourself.

If your serious about changing I found Camrider in Harlow very good, BUT I had two instructors on my 5 day course and no problems with MOD 1 or 2. More practice perhaps??

Surely all the instructors were teaching you the same things?can understand you might warm to one over the others but they would all be to a standard that should see you through mod 1.

What did you fail on?

Im interested on how you failed Mod1, ive not done it yet and it would be good to know what to look out for.

Also check out some youtube vids on Mod1. Theres some really good how toos and guides to what happens.

The main thing to look out for is your own nerves.

I failed twice on my mod 1, passed mod 2 without any minors.

It takes a dozen or so solid riding hours, maybe more to nail the feel of the clutch. You can get close to it with lessons but after you pass and you get to practice that will just improve with time.
Before you have had that practice something that isnt usually that hard like a figure of 8 or a u turn becomes difficult (depending on how you deal with pressure.)

Nothing to be ashamed of, it doesn't make you dumb or mean you have a low iq or even mean you are bad at riding, you may just have nerves or be bad in test situations, or more likleh just not had enough practice. If that is the case, and you can't just get rid of the nerves, then you need to be a bit better than Joe bloggs would have to be to compensate. Practice practice practice.

I can recommend 1stopinstruction.
They were pretty spot on and had great facilities to train for mod1.

I wouldn't worry too much because this thread from the OP just comes across as a giant fucking baw because did not pass and probably isn't the best advert for the test.

There's nothing really to look out for because if you ride / commute on a regular basis then you've most probably done all that's involved beside perhaps the figure of 8, unless you ride in London <joke>.

In reality, IMO, passing Module 1 comes down to putting it all together on that one attempt on that day while you've got the chance.

Just wait your turn and it all be over before you've acknowledged it even began. Still even if you fail there's always next time. Just another hurdle in the many steps to get a bike license.

Camrider are franchises so not all the same quality, YMMV. When I was doing my tests there were a couple of guys using camrider.

They rode to the test centre at 9am and sat there the whole time waiting for their tests (which were after mine). Meanwhile I was getting training from the school I used, rocked up 10 minutes before my test at around 11:30. The guy from my training school said that they always did it and that's 1 day of 'training'. So, Harlow camrider might be good, I'd avoid the Ipswich one.

Best way to do it is to get your CBT, get a 125, learn on it by yourself in your own time, then do module 1 (only £15.50) when you feel ready. I failed first time, no biggie as it is so cheap.

I'd disagree entirely. Do your CBT and theory, go straight into direct access lessons, pass mod 1, pass mod 2 then buy a 600.

No point wasting money on a 125 just to pass the Mod 1. It'll feel weird doing it on a bigger bike anyway.

I second this, the ones I was with were brilliant, two instructors, but that was beneficial cause you get some new insights.

What sort of great training facilities are you expecting you get a car park and some cones, it's pretty difficult to fuck that up to any level that would affect your training.

you would think so, but some people are unable to use complicated devices like a measuring tape...

we did our training in the test facility on the Sunday, which meant no surprises on the Monday Very Happy

For the 'high' speed stuff (estop/hazard avoidance) on my DAS training we used a road on an industrial estate. The surface was really poor and cars kept running over our cones.

The low speed stuff was in an old tennis court that was being used as a car park (also with a really poor surface). Our figure of 8 area had a car parked in the middle of it Neutral

Full lesson for me when doing MOD1 bit of practice before hand then off to the centre then long way back using up my full 4 hours.

Apreciate that not all Camriders centres will be equal but as the OP stated North London / Chelmsford and Harlow being fairly local to both it worth a mention Smile

Can vouch for these fellas, they got me through A2 at the Edgware site and full A at Lee Valley.

Chris is a great instructor if you're fortunate enough to have him. He'll crack jokes on escort to test so you won't feel as nervous and jus has general bants about 140-ing it on the blackbird cause he's late to work.

Richard on the other hand has more of a tough-love approach that I never really was fond of, but he knows what he's talking about.
