I ride a CG125 and I intend to continue to do so, even though I have had a full licence since 1962. At my age, anything much faster would be wasted on me, and it is cheap to run, and only used for leisure. It is a 2004model with kickstart and electric start. The engine is a bit rattly at high revs, and I would like to rebuild it. However, I do not want the bike off the road for a long period, so I am looking for a temporary spare engine. Although spare engines appear on Ebay, the y always seem to be from a different year. The exhaust on mine fits into the exhaust port using two large metal collets. I beleive they were discontinued on later engines meaning that my exhaust would not fit. Also later models are fitted with some kind of air valve on the tappet cover, and mine does not have this. Does anyone know what year they changed the exhaust? Could have been around 2004, can anyone confirm this? Does anyone have experience of fitting a different year encine to a CG125? What snags did you find, and how did you overcome them? My bike has five gears but 4 would be OK, so would kickstart only, or electric start only.

Any engine from 1998-2004 will be a straight drop in. Newer models I'm not sure about the mounting and the exhaust is different. Older models should be fairly simple to fit but again exhaust might be different.
