Not my sort of thing, but whatever floats your boat. At least it looks 'done proper' rather than the usual unrideable monstrosities.

Hello my name is malllias, I come from a small village in Greece. I have been working on my Yamaha XV650 and plan to
make it into a bobber. I'd love to hear your opinions. Here are some photographs of what I've done so far.
I've also posted a video on youtube. If anyone is interested I'll post a link Thumbs Up

or

Here's my video.... over and over and over again.

You're Greek - do the math.

It isn't personal. You need to find a chopper/cruiser bike forum. I think your paint job is pretty good, but maybe if you'd chosen a more attractive non-cruiser bike as the base of your custom, it would have been easier to appreciate. From the perspective of the type of riding we do in the UK and British biking tradition, the cruiser mentality is alien in many ways. The bike geometry is less optimal for cornering and fun street riding, and it isn't the way we sit and balance on a bike. It just strikes us as a poser's choice more than a rider's one. I saw a documentary that helped to explain this by saying that English equestrianism favours leaning forward in the saddle, back curved and feet slightly back, while American horse riding has the feet in front and back dead upright (because US cavalry traditions stem from the days of riflemen, while the UK cavalry stems from the days of lancers). Therefore everything about the all-out American cruiser motorcycle (which the Dragstar is supposed to emulate) looks wrong to us. There's the thrill of riding, and then there's the creepy habit of revving up at the traffic lights in European cities, hoping to be seen as something you aren't. Therefore there is a certain amount of scepticism towards that style of bike here. Personally, I like bobbers but I'm not hot on cruisers. They're a bit like eating every day at McDonalds because you like America so much. Now and then is fine. Hope this helps explain things.

No idea. You're probably right and I probably misheard the documentary. But sitting bolt upright in a bike saddle is just bad for the back and a bad idea all round. I can only imagine what a bad idea that would be on a bobber. The user here called lingeringstink has a ratty bobber which makes him lean forward a bit, which helps reduce the impact of bumps. Also, leaning forward to take a corner is a part of the proper technique. Arms and feet in front, spine dead upright just seems wrong. Can probably work for some people though..

I saw an advertising blurb for an Enfield 500 recently which had about the same geometry as one of the early inline 4 Japanese bikes. The guy said that the 'right' way to ride it was bolt upright, and not to 'slouch' forward. That didn't sound right either. No doubt postural preference is based on cultural differences.

BCF is a forum without an admin, we make the rules up as we go along but everyone is answerable to a certain cat.

Would you like to see that cat?

If only there was a 'show and tell' section for showing off a project. Wink

My brother has a 650 Dragstar. He's painting it metallic purple. No, I don't know why either.

Each to his own. Actually, I prefer yours.

You can delete that thread by going into it and then at the top right of your post there's these three buttons:

https://i.imgur.com/ywkTLfv.png

Click the X to delete that post. Thumbs Up

(you can only delete posts if there aren't any replies and nobody can post replies in exchange and mart so you should have no problems deleting it)

Spam is a bit like junk mail.

Don't worry too much about the Thumbs Down spam ratings, if you stick around and join in posting in other threads then your red blobs will soon go away.

We get a lot of spam on BCF. Laughing
