My laptop has 2xUSB 3 and 1xUSB 2.

The USB 3's are fine. But the 2 has a wierd issue whenever I unplug a device it brings up
Code:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

I have to Uninstall the device, after I can plug something in scan for hardware changes and it works but as soon as I unplug it I gget the same issue again. Any ideas?

I assume said device plugged into a 3 works fine? The descriptor is basically looking up the device and all its relevant shit that it then dumps in the properties bit you see in device manager.

Check the middle 2 pins on the port for dirt/damage if its just the USB 2 port, also.. i hate saying this cos you know your shit, but driver updates. Laughing

Does it do it if you eject it before unplugging like you should - but nobody does?
Sometimes just ejecting properly will stop it happening again for a while.

Windows is obsessed with indexing folders etc, so there can be things going on that ought not to be interrupted by just pulling the plug - but usually you can get away with it.

Or Windows just likes chucking files into the air and saying all done.

I've tried updating and reinstalling the drivers. What I think it is is the port can't detect that something has been unplugged it just thinks it's shit the bed. It's a mouse so there is no eject button.

I'll give cleaning it a try, cheers.

How old is the laptop? That sounds like a hardware failure to me.

Get a mac.

My Neighbour had a mac for her business, it suffered a hard drive failure after 3 years. Apple told her it was out of warranty and they no longer supported the type of drive she had. Her only option was to buy a new Mac. Rolling Eyes

It's about 2 years old I think.

Bios and chipset is up to date.

More playing about with it, It would seem only the mouse can work in that port.

Everytime I 'Scan for hardware changes' it will give the same message unless the mouse is plugged in. Even other devices. Is they a way to clear/rest the port?

I've tried uninstalling all USB controller drivers but no joy. I tried cleaning too.

Funny that, had an air since 2010, the only thing that's gone wrong is a faulty speaker which they replaced FOC about a year ago. Still running fine but I think it's about due an upgrade.

In the nearly 2 decades of using numerous apple products the handful of times I've had to seek hardware support from them they've been nothing but helpful, including replacing 2 phones out of warranty FOC.

Guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.

You can remove specific USB drivers via the registry if you know what to delete and where from.

No guarantees though ... and as with anything, at own risk yadda yadda blah blah.

Are you safely removing it on the usb 2 port?

3 is OK with simply pulling out. 2 tends to want you to safely remove or it can cause issues.

As said above it's a mouse, it doesn't have the safely remove option.

You must be, they wanted £160 to replace the camera in my 14 month old 5s. I did it myself it cost £5. They wouldn't repair my parents iPad which went wrong after about 18 months either.

I've never found any 'support' from them generous in the slightest.
