Yes I can use one of those with lots of ads, or an ad-free VPN (which's good for other sites/uses).

I must be, 1-click to turn on the vpn and go to whatever website/geo-locked streaming site, or sifting through proxy lists which normally are dead and/or full of advertising.

Eh?

The sites listed on https://unblocked.ink/ are kept up to date so you're not going to find that they're blocked.

And there's this new thing called Ad Blocker Plus which gets rid of the ads.

You're making unnecessarily complicated hard work of something that's really quite simple. Laughing

But Ste, he has got time or interest in doing it.

He is probably also using the Hola addon for chrome and telling everyone he is using VPN to make himself sound less retarded than he actually is.

So what about sites that aren't listed on there? For me it's simpler to use a VPN (not hola whatever that is Wink), rather than trying to find what I need, then finding a working proxy.

What sites do you need a VPN to access that aren't available on unblocked.ink ?

Just one (off the top of my head I can't see on that list?) tehparadox, but it could be any blocked site which isn't on that list.

lol, tehparadox is a waste of time, their downloads are on rapidgator and other such sites where you have to either pay or fuck around waiting before you can start your download which goes incredibly slowly.

You can very easily get all of the content of the sites on that list from piratebay, KAT or any of the other torrent site proxies.

Stop making things complicated for yourself. Thumbs Up

Whatever solution people find simplest Smile I'm not suggesting it's the best way or everyone should do it (as Cansa's meltdown suggests), I was actually looking for clarification of what it would look like to an ISP.

Back when I did use web proxies I found them annoying for various reasons. The VPN has been handy for lots of stuff, watching the debut of Walking Dead on the AMC site, accessing US netflix on the playstation etc.

Bought an MXQ Pro 4K and it's okay. Missus wanted it because we are hoping to cut the cable.

Kodi app crashed all the time until we disabled the topmost video acceleration option (AMV I think it is)

Play Store app still crashes all the time, complaining that this version (the current) is not compatible with the device and to roll back to an older version. Alas, the factory installed version is the newest and setting to that makes Play Store work once before it starts crashing again.

Having an external USB drive attached also causes a window to pop up and take focus away from whatever you were doing, though it's not obvious how to stop this and it isn't consistent how soon after starting it up that it'll happen.

For the money (80 Justin Trudollars) it's decent enough for just Kodi. Personally, I wanted to build a mini PC as that's more futureproof but whatever.

Toby,

Yes it plugs in the HDMI socket and it has a remote with voice control.
The fire TV as far as I can see is slightly better hardware with the extra option of using a cat5 network cable straight from the box to the router so your internet streams faster (no need for wifi)

other than that its the same as the stick.

I own a Firestick with Kodi loaded
I have a Vu+ Box with Sky, Kodi and IPTV on it including a motorised 1.1m satellite dish
Also have a subs paid plex server through the plex app (smart TV)
Also have IPTV through other TVs in the house for 3pm kick off etc

The Firestick is good for non technical people who just want a reliable service with nice icons and easy to use
Even the remote is simple with 6 buttons and a dial
The truth is, that's what most people want... so its good.

If you want the dogs danglies and something more complicated then the Vu+ box is the way to go..... but you get what you pay for. Mine cost £250 just for the box!

https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/kodi-warning-new-law-means-illegal-kodi-box-now-carries-10-year-jail-sentence-1-7945500

A new law passed yesterday means people using streaming devices like the Kodi box could now be jailed for up to 10 years.

It's not ever likely that anyone will ever get prosecuted for watching a movie at home.
The bill now covers loss of money for the copyright holder.
This is aimed at box sellers and the people that supply the streams, as in court it's quite hard to argue that you are causing a loss for a company by looking at its product. You can easily just say that there is no loss to be had, as you most certainly would never have paid for the movie/tv show/sports.
What it's inplace for is to use as a clear cut way of prosecuting people that sell the boxes and supply the streams, as they clearly are causing a loss to the copyright holders.

Nobody has or probably ever will be prosecuted for streaming a movie at home.

Laughing Yeah, the targets are never the lowest hanging fruit. That's why large companies are hit so hard for tax and someone who works a few hours cash in hand are left alone. It's always people speeding near schools that are hit for speeding tickets, never the guy doing 90 mph on a motorway at 3am with no one about. Targets are about easy catches and numbers.

Of course the home user will be the target. The people streaming are hiding behind data servers and bitcoin payments. Home users like yourself aren't using a VPN.

My 2 penneth.

I've several fire sticks. I find them faultless. They have a massive advantage over large boxes as they are more compact. With a micro USB from the TV itself for power, they are incredibly neat and portable.

We've used them abroad as well, I can confirm they work very well. They have just enough storage to store a couple of films if you're worried about the legality of streaming.....

I've tried other boxes and didn't get on with them to be honest. I think software plays a much larger part than hardware, in terms of stability. A crack-a-jack internet connection is probably the overriding reason for decent performance ....

People used to go on about this back in the taping music for personal use and then making videos for personal use.
Nobody ever got prosecuted for personal copying of music or videos, despite all the jail terms bandied around by the media and the ill informed public.

Here is why it's a pointless law to aim at the end user:

1 You can be at someones house and they are streaming a movie without your knowledge, you are then technically breaking the law.

2 You can easily not know that the stream you are watching is illegal.

3 You can easily argue in court that you are not losing the copyright holder money.

A simple test case will fuck the law over, that's why there wasn't one for cassette or video tapes. The law is there to make it easier to stop pubs putting up streams and for the police to easily arrest and prosecute box sellers and the people transmitting the streams.

Regardless, there are legally free streams you can watch.

How about point out I'm wrong when someone actually gets imprisoned for streaming a movie?
