You're not it's just that he's a naturally ornery individual.

Not much do go wrong with the GP engine, but if you're going to test it why not hang it in the frame - it's only a couple of bolts stuffed through the mounts.

Other than that I do believe the GP coil runs directly off the stator, so all you need is to bolt the coil to the engine and run the one wire to the stator, stick the spark plug cap on the plug and you're done.

Squirt fuel in the intake and kick it over, should start and run for a few seconds even without a carb.

Why not just temporally put it back in the frame .
slotting on the carb, coil, and exhaust on is quiet easy on a GP 100.

Nice on guys. As for slotting it in the frame well thats a no go. Everything is stripped. The bike needs a lot of new parts, tank included. It was lying up for 20 odd years so basically its a total resto. The picture is what it was like when i first got it.

20 years? I'd be turning it over by hand first. Preferably after oiling the bore.

Suprisingly enough, the inside of the engine was imacculate. No rust at all. Compression was excellet as was gearbox, carb and clutch. I just decided if im going to go to the hassle of a complete resto i might aswell rebuild the engine.

A rolling chassis is still a much quicker and easier place to put the engine to run it than building a jig from scratch to hold it...
No fuel tank... Upside down coke bottle etc etc...

Do it in the frame, cheaper, easier, quicker and better than building a jig for it to sit in.

Yeh it makes more sense to bolt it back in the frame to start it. Unfortunatly tho i have just descovered that the ignition coil is knackerd so it will be next week before it arrives. Thanks to all for the help and suggestions. I will let ye know how i get on when the coil arrives.

If compression still ok, check fuel gets to carb, eliminate air leaks.
You could try easy start or equivalent. If it runs on that when squirted into the intake is safe to say fueling issue.

This is presuming the timing was set properly before you did anything.
